Matty Young .

A bit of hindsight hype there perhaps. Preston fans saying that after 20 games he was the best keeper to have ever played for them 🤣🤣🤣

As I said, he was well regarded but there wasn’t a lot of hype at the time. Even we were happy at the time that Mannone started that season as first choice.
I’m not sure you understand what hype means, then.

Only heard the commentary but he was getting the blame for their goal, the lass commentator was saying something along the lines of 'keeper shouldn't be getting beat from there's and the man city were too embarrassed to celebrate as it was too easy. I thought f***ing hell it man city Vs Salford ffs

Was an OG, massive deflection so commentary if thats what they said are being a bit c*ntish
Never saw the goal and haven't been paying too much attention. Marmoush scored a beauty that was ruled offside that he got nowhere near. But Salford are doing quite well now.
Heard the commentators say he was at fault when he came out of his area to clear the ball, but I didn't see it - think he gave city possesion.

He's being quite well protected but he's just flicked away a deflected clearance from his own player quite well with his feet.

Only started really paying attention on 67 mins.

Did well and came out bravely to snuff out a dangerous attack. Their 2nd goal should have stood as it wasnt offside. Think garbutt was playing him on but never stood a chance with a top corner finish which it was. Both him and defence did well. Garbutt was their MOTM for me as he had their young right winger in his back pocket. They had to bring on the likes of rodri to keep them out of touch which for a league 2 side speaks for itself.
2-0 City

A cross /shot by Cherki comes in and Young has to parry away from goal, comes straight back in and City score.
City having a bit a go now.
Just made a good punch from a corner
Semenyo through and Young beaten but comes back off the inside of the post.

Salfords right back in the 2nd half must be knackered as he never stopped one cross in 45 minutes. Just opened the flood gates down that side
Another loan. Be similar to when Pickford went to Bradford the year after being at Burton IIRC.

Think as long as he keeps moving up the leagues its good. Only 19. Ideally league 1 with salford next year if they can get promotion
His kicking was spot on today and looked confident generally.

AYe. Got a canny kick on him. He tries what pickford used to do, pick people out. Obviously there will be one or two go out but pickford still does it now. Part of having a keeper trying to play like that
exactly ...

if this progression was good enough for Jordan Pickford ... then it's good enough for Young ...
2011–2017 31(0)
2012 (loan)17(0)
2013 (loan)12(0)
2013→ (loan)12(0)
2014→ (loan)18(0)
2014–2015→ (loan)33(0)
2015–2016→ (loan)24(0)
2017–319

so Pickford was an 18 years old at Darlington ... 21 /22 years old or so in the Championship with Sunderland by 2016 ... August 2017 Premiership debut he'd be about 23 years old.. Matty Young is doing okay at the minute

Hes doing great. Keep doing what hes doing and move up the leagues
Has anyone ever spent 3 consecutive years on loan at a club?

Think salford are a bit different to a lot of clubs as theyre growing year on year especially in investment. Look where they came from to what they have now. Will have been a couple wrexham players play throughout a couple leagues/seasons with them id imagine. Good sign if they want him again i guess. Karl robinson knows league one well

Keepers are always tricky ones, it is all about if the spot opens up for him really, even harder to get that in the PL.

Would be ideal if that happens around 21/22 with a couple of hundred games behind him up to championship level like with Pickford. He seems to be progressing well, but he has time on his side and is a baby in goalkeeping terms.

I've seen the odd game here and there and he looks decent, but he's nowhere near the level required yet.

Championship loan next year?
Would be the sensible route or a European club if one was interested. If Salford (sorry Swindon) go up via the play offs and no decent championship options were open he could go back there for 6 months.

I know we have to plan for the future but we seem to have 3 good keepers on our books and all are young, scary having sensible people in charge at the club.

The future is fine but we only have 1 that I would want in our first 11,and he is attracting a lot of interest.

I don’t think Ellborg done too much wrong when he came in, he’s not Roefs level but I don’t think many are and he was probably bought not to be first choice till 27/28 season and then Young might be fighting him for that position if he has another great season out on loan next year.

You are right about 27/28 ,if RR goes we must have an experienced GK signed.

No idea who though, my mind went straight to Leno at Fulham but no idea if he suits our way of playing or is Fulham would let him leave. Trafford for a year on loan or some random from Europe I guess, wouldn’t want anyone for 2/3 years as that’s just a block.

Strasbourg keeper has been linked as a swap deal for Roefs.

Getting POTY nominations in L2, then you'd think a Champ club would snap our hands off for him.
I don't even think its a massive jump - I thought he should have went L1 this season, and said so on here. He'd already proved he was good enough for L2, and some.

It would be useful if our GK was a homegrown player…would take one of the spaces up for years…..that’s why I don’t really understand why we signed Ellborg.

Suppose it opened up a change for Patto to continue his developement on loan, and put someone else on the bench? Could potentially split it again next year too?
I still think Patto has a lot to offer. Reminds me a lot of when we brought Mepham in, and everyone was purring about how that's a proper cultured centre back, not like Ballard - but then I kept saying Ballard was massively underrated and when he got his place back, he proved me 100% right.

AND he's home grown. Its just that Roeffs looks bloody brilliant. Might not always be able to find a gem like that though, and we certainly won't be able to keep him beyond next season if he plays this well again.
