We really don’t, but of all the ridiculous reasons I’ve seen for umpires taking/keeping the players off this truly is a new one

To be fair, if the only ‘damage’ is to temporary structures there shouldn’t really be any hold up.
Aside from the wicket being wet, obviously, but even then, the sun is out and if it doesn’t rain any more that should be dry by the scheduled start time

I said to our group on Friday the ridiculous scaffolding for the side screen looked appalling, no shock to see that blown over.
As for the covers now in the trapdoor stand
Classic Durham this but that scaffolding seriously looked appalling, not sure who had that idea for April, absolutely crazy

Absolutely this.
Don’t get all the bed wetting at all. Scaffold can be dismantled and removed fairly easily and fairly quickly (yes, I speak from experience).

Well having witnessed how the Grounds Team dealt with the boundary sponges being blown around on Friday, it does not surprise me that the covers have blown away.

Health and safety team have probably gone into a panic overdrive.
They'll need to fix up the sightscreen at least. The scaffolding was being used for it.
