I don’t get the hate for Mickey Gray. Have a look at a compilation of Lord Niall’s goals and note how many came from his crosses. If it’s just because of that pitiful penalty attempt that’s pathetic and don’t forget he was an important part of the team that got us to fhat point and promoted the following year. But a talented and committed Sunderland lad who was an ever present in a very good side.
He’s earned the right. And certainly has if Ball is making the shortlist!
Would have thought Gurney a definite pick alsoCharles Buchan, Dave Halliday, Raich Carter, Len Shackleton, Charlie Hurley and Monty; six definite picks in my book.
After those six legends it's any eight from a cast of hundreds.
A good shout - I knew he was prolific in the great '36 team but didn't realise how good his overall scoring record was throughout his Sunderland career. If anyone, after Carter, has to be chosen from that thirties team it would have to be him. The current generation of fans have fond memories of Gary Rowell, Kevin Phillips and further back Cloughie. None of those are near to Gurney in terms of goals for Sunderland, especially top-flight goals.Would have thought Gurney a definite pick also
This is news to me and I can find no evidence online.
are you suggesting a country that would name a ship boaty mcboatface or tick the jedi religion box on the census may not be a nation best suited to public votes\referendums?Surely the best course of action would be the Cub Historian selecting, rather than a popularity contest.

cause i think you might have a point.
First British woman to do it.Don't even know if you're being serious here, like.
Jesus Christ.Jill Scott deserves one imo, one of, if not, the biggest names in womans football.
Exactly.Pickford and Henderson did mire at Sunderland than her.....like play for the first team.
As I thought...First British woman to do it.
Sir Walter was her grandad
I loved Micky Gray, one of my favourite players of that time. I loved that left wing partnerrship with Magic-Al.I don’t get the hate for Mickey Gray. Not being funny, but why should they be lauded any more than the 1937 winning team? Or any of the league title winning sides?11 spaces for the 1973 cup winning side.
You mean Julio the ex buwa player?John Kay was my suggestion for additional choices but Julio is a glaring omission too.
