‘Glasgow Rangers’.

From growing up in Scotland I’d say this the classic Celtic victim mentality I’d expect, Celtic fans on here with the whataboutery whilst trying to come across morally superior to their rivals. The same in every pub across Scotland you get the same kind of chat.

Folk seem to think unless you counter anything with a “aye Rangers are just the same tbf” you’re a Celtic hater, but it’s just pointing out what appears to be factual that Celtic started it yesterday by entering the pitch, play it down as celebrating all you want, nobody is buying it.

That is the case and they shouldn’t have been on the pitch. I haven't played it down either so please don’t create a false narrative.

Do you think, and just humour me, there’s perhaps a world we can aim for where the home fans don’t react or respond with violence toward police, players and staff from the opposition team?

I’ve been watching Celtic and Rangers play for a good few decades now and have been around the city and both clubs at different times for nearly 30 years. On Sunday I was a guest of a Rangers sponsor who also happens to be a friend. That’s important context in that it’s possible to take a balanced view when football is involved. We were equally disgusted at Rangers fans and the onion bears.

Glasgows modern history is one of catholic and Irish oppression, that’s not for debate. That permeates Glasgow and the west of Scotland still. Unequivocally, the overwhelming balance of incidents of violence in Glasgow culminating from either football club are instigated by Glasgow Rangers fans. It’s also in their songs, their culture and their history. Ignore that all you want.

I sometimes think that drawing equivalence helps some of their fans turn away from the issue.

No one cares. How many people are religious nowadays? Scottish / Irish people that make up the Celtic support are white predominantly. Isn't the racism in the UK and Ireland aimed at brown skinned people overwhelmingly?
Exactly, the insinuation that folk hate Celtic here because of religion is deplorable really, only yesterday their fans were wrecking an away end and mocking the deaths of 66 people, is it so hard to believe folk can just think their fans are arseholes?

Are you an immigrant these days, how do you feel about immigrants?

Are you a slice of ham these days, how do you feel about ham?

You seem to be listening with one ear Mike. The graffiti and fans coming into the pitch were wrong, awful. Although I can’t speak for them all, a vast majority of Celtic fans would agree with you.

This isn’t a zero sum argument you know.

It will be interesting to see what the punishment is going to be by the SFA. I’d love for them to hammer the clubs but I suspect they will bottle it.

I’m sure Celtic took to the pitch first and their players were goading the home fans. Some interesting blue n Red face masks on display at the end like- like a moby video

That’s not surprising
Aye, it's all racism

Both clubs should be forced to play one of these fixtures each behind closed doors next season. Thst might make the morons take notice.

Good to see this thread has at least agreed on a consensus that both sets of fans have a high proportion of dickheads amongst them.

Now we just need to sort out, a) who has the most dickheads, b) which dickheads started it, and c) which particular incident showed the greatest amount of dickheadedness.

I’ll return in another 50 pages for a catch up & a laugh.

Totally agree mate. If both clubs just get a fine then it’s a total farce really.

Potentially though, this whole mess is a bit of good news for Hearts (and possibly Motherwell). Although the old firm game on Sunday was a cup game, you’d imagine the aftermath will dominate both the front and back pages in Scotland for a couple of weeks.

It might just allow Hearts a couple of further games out of the spotlight before the pressure really builds ahead of the title run in.

Scott Brown attacked by a fan.
A bottle was thrown at Matt O’Riley.
A smashed bottle was aimed at Joe Hart.
Batteries were thrown at Leigh Griffiths.
A Celtic physio was left pouring with blood.
Arne Engels was struck by a coin.

And that doesn’t even include what happened yesterday.

All of it at Ibrox.

But apparently, the big issue is graffiti, stickers, and broken chairs. 😬

Celtic fans have behaved as bad, remember the Hugh Dallas game?

And it's simpler than this.

1. Illegal graffiti in support of a proscribed terrorist group and mocking a stadium disaster and the deaths; crashing turnstiles, battering a steward and invading the pitch to goad Rangers fans = the big issue. Simply saying you don't condone the graffiti mocking the disaster is a tame response, sorry @Kingdom Bhoy

2. Rangers hooligans invading the pitch and attacking Celtic players and staff; and attacking Celtic fans = the big issue

And the scumbags from both sides have just kyboshed any idea of proper away allocations and proper derby atmospheres for the foreseeable. 🤦‍♂️

Celtic fans definitely seem worse than Rangers these days. They were a disgrace at the weekend. Both sets are knackers mind.

Both as bad as each other, glad we don't have to suffer that sectarian bigotry in the English league system. Be great to see another team win up in Scotland, their leagues and national team always fared better when the Old firm stranglehold is broken. Love to see Hearts win it !!

I'd disagree when everything is included in context. Rangers fans actually go out of their way to attack Celtic pubs prior to games, the most recent one being earlier this season (there's a video of them running away with their Santa hats lying scattered everywhere). It happens regularly, not just a one-off. And we're talking about 'family' type pubs, not the ones where you might expect similar type people up for a bit aggro. They pick on easy targets.

League cup final at Hampden last season, each club had a designated time to arrive at the stadium so Rangers fans turned up at the Celtic 'time' purely looking for trouble.
