The Fishing Thread

I’ve already recounted the story when I fouled hooked a trout.

I won’t relive it but I was deeply embarrassed at the incident. I like to think I am a responsible angler. I never leave line, hooks or any other waste and always try to handle my catches with respect.
I’ve foul hooked plenty mate.
Inevitable when a few are feeding at the same time. No shame.👍

Mind it was dodgy as owt on the rocks today.

Recent rain meant the ground was sodden then last night it froze then today a bit sun meant slippy conditions.

My mate cried off so I was on my own. Fortunately the swell had dropped a bit so I could fish close to the water but the climb down then back up was a bit sketchy.

Be bloody careful mate.
Biggest scare I ever had was falling in a weir pool with waders on.
Managed to get hold of the bank and lift myself to safety. It was scary.

Yup I had my Vass waders on today . Not intending to get in the water but as the tide pushed up I wanted to be prepped. I’ve got studded Vass boots for walking on slippery surfaces.

I’ve also got a floatation suit for the more dodgy marks!

I really don’t want to fall in though.

Put all my Pike back alive.
Met an 84 year old bloke yesterday on a lake fishing for pike and walleye,he said they were his favourite fish to eat.

Lots of UK anglers are dumping trebles for plain hooks.

Still get the same hook ups but far better for unhooking.

We all love fishing, let’s get the fish back as unharmed as we can so they grow to make more fish.

I wish commercial fishermen understood this correlation.

Still it’s not my job to catch fish………thank god!

There was 4 lads fishing the cliff edges between Marsden and Souter today.

All of them on the sea side of the barrier.

That’s a big drop there mind and from a boat you can see big caves underneath. One day that’s coming down and hope to god no one is up there when it happens.
Used to be a path at Souter called the Goat Path which took you half way down the cliff then there was a set of ladders which allowed you to climb down onto the beach under North row ends . My dad said there was excellent fishing on the Far out rocks and the Pinnacle rock . You can still see the path but ladder is long gone.

A little different although I have used similar to this.
The success I had a few weeks back was a 15cm pure rubber one.
They have moved off from that swim now.

Biggest moan I have is litter.
Lazy bastards that leave litter behind in their swims. Need to be banned.

That sounds scary 🤣🎣

Right fishing lads.

What reels do you use - multipliers or fixed spools?

I used to use ABU multipliers 7500, 7000, Mag Elite etc etc

But no one seems to use them nowadays - I’m on Diawa fixed spool reels.

What are you using?

I put most of my fish back as long as they are not deeply hooked. I might keep one or two mackerel when in season for the pan and a couple for bait but that’s it.
I fish to feed me and the family. I don’t get the catch and release thing and that’s my main reason for not getting caught up in fresh water fishing. Me dad was a fisherman and that’s my bag too.

Still got a Penn 535 and a Conoflex Blast years old!!! . Agree that every one seems to use Fixed spools with braid now.

Aye I’m on braid for everything apart from a mono leader for lures.

Edit I say mono but I use Fluorocarbon because I believe the “ it’s invisible in water bollix. I’ve put the stuff in water and I can see it but I still use it.

Got a couple of Penn Mag 525s and a Penn Fathom 2 casting special for general fishing

Daiwa Slosh for the rough stuff, and a 7HT for river/light beach stuff

Love my 525s though, bomb proof and cast like a dream.

Still got a my 7000s

All my Bass go back alive, quick pic and back they go.

I started putting Codling back years ago. I used to keep everything because they wouldn't go to waste, but decided to put the bigger fish back. Had one just over 8lb on Roker one night and put it back. There were some shocked faces  . Had over 40lb of fish that night, best session I've ever had.

My first reel was Black Abu that someone had hacked the level wind off and a Meterlite Soarer that someone asked if I had won the lottery when I got talking to him😂

My first rod was a Sea Sabre, I think my first reel was an Intrepid Seastreak. These were upgraded to a Abu Atlantic 464, the one with coasters for the reel. Then I saved up all my pennies to buy an Ambassador 9000. They were £39 in that tackle shop in Vine Place but when I went in to buy one they said they were out of stock. Next day they were in the window for £45. The bastards had taken them off sale a couple of days before the price increase then put them back on sale. Next came an Ambassador 650 then a 7000. I think I still have the 6500 and the Atlantic rod.

I had the reddy coloured Abu with the level wind and the blue one without level wind.

Also had a mag elite that I loved.
