Leicester City PSR breach.

The whole Championship financial landscape is an absolute mockery really.

Relegated PL gifted hundreds of millions for what is essentially a free shot at promotion by allowing them to maintain PL level wage bills and outspend the competition by eye watering amounts. Others spending about 150% of their income on wages, all without a care in the world because at the end of the day when push comes to shove nothing will happen.

It needs a root and branch overhaul but that will obviously never happen.

An utter joke.
Its all a vicious circle of greed, the PL wants teams to float between PL & EFL as the parachute money is then dished out to the other PL clubs, its pure greed. the whole of football needs a giant reset button pressed

Football is absolutely fucked isn’t it, I don’t even like it anymore, how are we ever meant to compete in the premier league again ? The mags have got loads of money but can’t spend it, it’s a closed shop it’s all bent as well, heard a story today of Chelsea buying a Mag kid, the kid wanted to move to Chelsea and his parents informed the mags he wanted to leave, the Saudis get in touch with Chelsea and tell them buy him and they’ll do no more business with Chelsea ever, I’m sure that Lewis Hall deal between the mags and Chelsea is some sort of FFP fiddle as well.
I`ve realised this, I've went from a football fan to a Sunderland fan I think, I travel everywhere watching the lads but I cant pull myself to watch and enjoy say Arsenal v Manure, i just lose interest so quickly, and I personally don`t like it, but I do look forward so much to SAFC games

The greed is with the players and not the clubs though. So how do you reset that? Owners don’t really make any money out of being in the PL (until they sell the club for a profit), in fact they usually lose money, it’s all about ego and status for them. It’s the players that are the really greedy ones, surely - for example staff costs for Leicester in 2023 were £205m (116% of total revenue), I don’t think that the tea lady, kit man, and groundskeeper saw much of that money 🤷‍♂️

I agree but clubs also have some amount of greed

This isnt about man City. If and when they get dealt with then that's the time for reaction. This is about Leicester. City and as they were unlikely to get promoted and still unlikely to get relegated this season, it amounts to a slap on the wrist.
Why do you think they are unlikely to be relegated? They are now out of the bottom 3 on GD only, have no manager, have just lost back to back home games to 2 clubs right in the shit, are on a horror run of form, are a club in total crisis, and have a tough set of fixtures coming up. If they stay up now, then it’s likely to be because a couple of other sides are even worse!!!

Weak as piss EFL. They have now set the precedent to others, spend what you like, be late with your accounts (on quite a few occasions), just take the minus 6 when it eventually comes aroud.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, the EPL wanted them docked 20pts.

I don’t mean to be difficult, but … greed for what exactly? None of them make any profit. As far as I can tell, the only ‘greed’ that they have is a desire to be able to afford the wages of better players every season, which means getting higher incomes every season.
I do see where you`re coming from, but take the visitors for example, the club have increased prices for that qarabag game, granted yes it`ll go to the players, suppose its just the bigger picture isn't it. Mind I didn't realise how much Ronaldo was on until yesterday 1/2m a week!! That's astronomical mind

Your lot look bang in trouble this season mate, what’s been going on? October time, I thought you were fighting for promotion. Be a massive shame if you go down again - West Brom is a superb away day (The Vine - terrific pre and post match watering hole).

Yes, this is the real problem. Most of the money just goes straight out of the game to the players. There was some research done a couple of seasons ago that identified that if every PL player sacrificed an average of 5% of their salary and put it into a bank account to be used to subsidise supporter ticket prices, then football would be free to watch at all levels from PL down to NL North & South. At that point the average PL player was earning £60k per week, so that would have dropped the average wage to £57k per week. They wouldn’t even notice!

Not really up on what they did tbh, do no idea how serious their breach was, but a 6 point penalty sounds like next to nowt. They most likely won't go down this season, weren't going to go up anyway, so whatever overspending they did seems to have been relatively unpunished
The Disciplinary Commissions have said in the past that they won't go to 9 or over as 9 is what clubs get for insolvency, and PSR isn't deemed as heinous as insolvency
Early 2000s.

It was their actions that got the rules tightened.

I'm sure Gary Linekar was on the board at the time, but they took themselves into administration, wiped out the debt, terminated the contracts of their players, and then signed the vast majority of them back immediately on much lower wages.
Completely sorted out their finances and at the time there was no sanctions that could be used.

They got promoted and the furore caused the football authorities to start tightening the rules to stop clubs taking advantage like that again.
Basically got their stadium for free IIRC (that may have been someone else mind)

My brother is a longtime Leicester match goer, and you're right it was over debts related to the then newly built Walker's Stadium. Iirc a lot of local businesses got hit by it.

You're a bit all over the place with who's who mate. This was the finding of an independent Disciplinary Commission established by the Premier League, not the EFL. It doesn't matter what the Premier League or, for that matter, the EFL wanted - the decision is that of an independent body.

I got disinterested with the premier league during our time away from it to the point where I’d be in a pub with some gobshite sky boys I work with and when they started talking about different players and matches I’d literally have nowt to offer to the conversation

Obviously taking more interest now I’m seeing us up against these sides but I agree on your wider point.

Wow!

I remember thinking Lineker was incredibly smug over what they'd done.

It's wild how badly things have turned since their owner sadly passed in that helicopter accident. Bad decision after bad decision ultimately got them to this position
Absolutely. It’s not even 5 years since they won the FA Cup. Spectacular fall from grace.
I've lived here 40 years, been to quite a few games, and i still don't have much feeling for them. I feel a bit sorry for my LCFC supporting friends though.
Yeah I work in Desford mate and most of my colleagues are Leicester fans. I do feel a little sorry for them but I don’t recall much sympathy for me when I started working where I do in 2019 and we were in League 1 whilst they were finishing 5th in the Prem.
