Early leavers and final whistle on Sunday

I left on 88 mins with 2 kids as we were getting picked up and wanted them home for a reasonable bed time before school, sorry if that bothers anyone. Getting sick of seeing all these midweek fixtures yet we never seem to have them in school holidays!
You’d find an excuse to go early then too

Thank Northern Rail .... Train service so poor ... the last train on can be a bus .. or none turn up at all .. do you take the risk and get home after midnight ... pay £40 / 60 for a taxi ... or leave early!
Be even worse week Wednesday against Liverpool ..8-15 pm kick off thanks to Sky..
TNT to blame for that one
Game won, late finish, bloke in front of us with a young kid left 5 minutes before the end, school day tomorrow, normally stays until full time on a normal kick off time, fair enough

Noticed loads of empty seats at Villa on Saturday and they were 3rd in the league and only 1 down 🤷🏻‍♂️
It was also absolutely Baltic. Retreated to the bar area on 80 just to get warm

I go to every home game and always stay til the end. We’ve had an issue with early leavers for years, when I watch other games on TV it’s rarely as bad as SOL unless the home team is getting thrashed. As I say, it’s been good this season but crept back in again recently unfortunately.
Well done, make sure you collect your top supporter badge from the club… honestly man get a grip

Loads of people have to get up at 5-6am, why would you make yourself even more tired all tomorrow when the game was done and dusted?

It's mad how many perpetually online people are obsessed with how things look to other clubs fans. Proper insecure, bugger what they think.

So what are you saying? Sunderland fans are worse fans than most other clubs? Or is it because we the sol is particularly bad to leave or has bad transport/road links?
It's an extra 5-10 minutes mate 😂

I’m not buying the 5-6 am thing like, I mean I don’t care if people leave early but not to be up early excuse. Get in for away games later and get to work still.
Got to wonder what the players think, finishing after a 3-0 win and looking around to see a half empty stadium.
Probably not give a fuck.

You actuality stood and watched who was leaving?

Time to watch the crowd, then time to text.
Did you watch the game?
It wasn’t that hard to miss tbf when most folk around me left, wanting to be past.

Plus I sit directly above the exit tunnel / vomitory row 23

The players have noticed and wonder what's going on apparently.

Is this why our atmosphere is generally poor. People are going to the match thinking our players don't care, and that they don't care themselves?

Mental that, after the season we've had, and the way those players have played.
Bet they prefer 40k still in the stadium singing WMS at the end rather than 10k.

Anyway let’s hope it’s just a blip and everyone is back on form vs Liverpool.

Definitely will be worse, and understandable to be fair.

Was quite noticeable that a fair few got up and left from around 85 mins tbf.

Mind you, the traffic last night was ridiculous. Absolute gridlock at times and took ages to just get over the Wearmouth bridge.

I got back to Birtley at 10:50 which I thought was good going considering how bad the traffic was, but that said it required me going all the back roads and through the estates knowing shortcuts to do it. If I’d stayed on the 1231 I reckon I’d have been looking at 11:20ish.

No I am saying a professional athlete wont be bothered about fans leaving early as they will be concentrating on playing the game itself.

I am aware they are not robots. I am also aware they are elite athletes playing in the top league in the world with some of the strongest mentalities in sports.
Well it's sad that they have to remind themselves that they are professional athletes, when they look around dispairingly at a half empty ground.

Funny you often see professional athletes improve performance, or lose total confidence based on crowd reaction.

When the club is trying desperately to build a connection with the fans, which it did successfully with the 'til the end campaign and the generally positive relationship between players and fans this season, it must be galling for the players who are trying their hearts out on the pitch to see thousands not prepared to support their team until the final whistle.

It's not like a film where if you don't like it you leave the cinema early or skip a song if you don't like it on Spotify. This is our football club, it's different from any other form of consumerism, the whole point is there's an irrational love for an institution which, in Sunderland's case, would have lost virtually all support in recent years if it was simply about the product on the pitch.

Even if was just about 'the product', it's now at its best for a generation and there have also been lots of late goals this season so that argument doesn't stack up either.

People who consistently leave early are generally consumers, not supporters, who don't epitomise what supporting the club is really all about. It's almost become a badge of honour to leave early ffs. Support the lads 'til that end.
