Geertruida

I think for some, its the fact that its come very late in the window and will likely mean clubs making us pay extortionate prices, whether in transfer or loan fees, because they know we'll be wanting someone in with this news coming out.
You don’t think we’ve been on the phone since September talking to agents and clubs about future transfers or about the summer transfers?? You think we sat there doing squat and then Liverpool called ? Gimme a break! It’s late for Liverpool as well!!

He’s been ok sometimes when inverting from other positions but as a starting CM I personally don’t think he has the goods for PL level
Agree about him in the centre but the most often used hybrid role he’s played is as an old school right midfielder dropping back to right back in a deep block. He’s been very good when he’s done that.

Everyone saying we should take up our option to buy him then rinse Liverpool need to remember that the player need to actually agree to the deal as well.

Or Liverpool picked up a couple of injuries to Frimpong and Gomez last week and this move has came out the blue. Geertrudia won’t of played a meaningless u21 game leading up to the West Ham game if he had a move to Liverpool in the background.
Liverpool might have need to see him trotting

You do realise we have a say to let him go? We aren’t going to let him go if we don’t have someone lined up.
I do. But in practice it's probably very difficult when you've got a lad who is only here until the end of the season and who is getting his head turned by a club as big as Liverpool, with a manager he knows. So aye, we could say no. I'm sure we will say no if we can't replace him. But it's still going to be a lot of pressure to get a solution found. Just hope the replacement is at least as good, and preferably as versatile, otherwise we should tell Liverpool to fuck off

You'd think you're the angry one with all them exclamation marks.

It'll all be alright and I have faith in the recruitment team. All I'm saying is that if we were going to sign someone on loan with a £2m loan fee until the end of the season yesterday, the loan fee will now be £4m as the other clubs will know we will be desperate and that's the way the January transfer window works.

We aren't living in the same world we were 24 hours ago.

I would be wanting a fair compensation package, which wouldn't be "small"
Depends on the terms of the option we’ve got. If the player has to agree then there’s not much leverage for us. We could keep an unhappy player and sit him in the stands, but I dunno if that helps us much either.

So many things we don’t know for example what happens if the season long loan deal has no recall option for Leipzig?

In that case they are stuck as are Liverpool unless they can find a deal that suits us.

The above could be wrong but truth is none of us really know
They don't according with the BBC, he's ours and can only leave if we say so.

I'm sure they don't, but at the same time it all depends on when they knew about this. If they've known for a while and that's why he didn't play against West ham then hopefully they've got a solution lined up. If it's come out of the blue (which I'm guessing it hasn't) then it's a bit different. They might have a great list of players they'd like, they might even have had discussions with agents, but convincing their club to sell, convincing the player to move when there's an offer on the table, all with 30 or so hours left in the window wouldn't be easy

It's cheeky as fuck from Liverpool mind. The lad is on a season long loan with an agreed future fee and no recall clause, that should be as near to unavailable as you can get. Not really arsed as long as we can replace him, but doing that well with this little time left and the number of positions he covers will be hard despite all the contingency planning the club will have in place
You think Liverpool just woke up one morning and said call SAFC? I’m sure there were talks going on behind the scenes… if it’s in the news it’s probably a lot further along then people know!!

Yeah and have an unhappy player on the books as well as damage all credibility with Leipzig and Liverpool. Sounds like a great solution.
Realistically Liverpool couldn't complain at all if a club signs someone for a loan fee, on a season long loan with no recall clause, and refuses to let him go early. Wouldn't harm our credibility at all. Shouldn't harm our credibility with Leipzig either, they agreed to the one year loan for the fee we offered, they couldn't expect us just to throw it away if they find a way of getting more money out of it. It would harm our relationship with the player mind, but if he goes to Liverpool he's realistically not going to be joining us in the summer anyway so, as long as he still performs when needed, that's probably not a huge consideration
