Geertruida

Even if personal terms are sketched out in principle if a player doesn't want to sign for you when the loan finishes, what happens then?
I honestly don’t know. I think in some cases the player has agreed, from their end, to sign permanently already.

Pretty gutted about this one, but can’t blame him. He will play right back the rest of the season for them and guarantee his spot in the Dutch World Cup squad.

Far too good to not be playing every week.

Think this is going to be an Abraham situation either we buy and sell or probably more likely a Guiu loan where we get compensation for agreeing to return the player to his parent club early.

And keep a disgruntled player ? That never ever works I'm afraid.

I say so, it’s a day before the window closes and we could be about to lose an international player who offers us excellent cover in 3/4 positions.

Obviously we don’t know the ins and outs of it all, but unless we have something lined up, he stays.

Big blow either way

An excellent versatile player that I think has been under utilised.

If he departs, it’s effectively equivalent to losing two players given his versatile. We’d have to replace him.

If the club have known about this for a while, and his lack of playing time indicates this and they knew Xhaka was carrying a knock, it makes the lack of transfer activity even more baffling.

Playing Hume there isn't the answer, or fair on Hume

Would we have moved for Brobbey on deadline day even if Guiu had stayed? I doubt it
We definitely came out of that one better.
Doubt it. Brobbey was one we could move on quickly due to his agency and previous contact. Wouldn’t have got him otherwise, we got lucky (again) with that one imo

This. I'd move if I was him. He 100% should have started as Xhaka's replacement in midfield. He's looked quality whenever and wherever he's played. The club have dropped a bollock here big time by not aggressively pursuing a permanent transfer as soon as the window opened. Covers CB,CM,RB and nobody can tell me he hasn't done enough in the first half of the season to warrant it. Massively disappointing.
Agree, look's like a major 4uk up by the club. Maybe SAFC wanted him but not his salary ? Not a good timing at this late moment in the tansfer season.

What replacement do we need?

A midfielder? I'd be confident that there's one out there better than Geertruida and Neil that we can get - whether that's this window, I don't know (which would be a problem).

Maybe a CB but only cover required.
A player with quality and some versatility. A premier League O'Nien
Someone like Geetruida

I think people are confusing it with loans where the transfer is mandatory or based on conditions like avoiding relegation. Geertruida was never signing permanently after the game time he’s had
Erm.. see Pierre ekwah. He definitely didn’t want to sign permanently for St Etienne but he did. Yes it’s ended up a mess but everything was pre agreed.

It was reported when we signed him that we had a buy option, but we didn't actually announce that.

Compare that to Isidor - we did announce the buy option when we signed him on loan.

So we may actually have no such option. Leipzig would likely have a recall option in that case, in which case they can recall him and sell him or loan him on to Liverpool and there's nothing we can do about it.

No sympathy with clubs who rely on borrowing other clubs players then discover they can't control what happens because he's not their player.
We don't know the terms of the deal so hard to be critical. It makes sense for Liverpool and so I can understand this being made public knowledge but who knows what our contract with him and Leipzig is. How about Copley and Smith at the Echo try and use their contacts to find out?
Hello Nick. Any idea what's happening?
No, I'm more interested in practicing my basic French and asking questions about Poveda.

If the club have known about this for a while, and his lack of playing time indicates this and they knew Xhaka was carrying a knock, it makes the lack of transfer activity even more baffling.

Two things with the first sentence, firstly he hasn’t left, and secondly we wouldn’t replace him til he’s gone imho
