Help me plan a day in Sunderland

I'm not a season ticket holder and live in Surrey, so my chances of getting a match ticket seems to be slim to none at the moment. However my kids are keen to see Sunderland in the Premier League and so I thought I might drive up for the Leeds match, before going across to Cumbria to visit family.

Where would the best place for the kids (12 and 11) to experience the pre-match atmosphere?
Would I be able to get access to the Fan Zone without a match ticket?
Will there be anywhere in the town showing the match that is kid friendly?
Anywhere else I should take them?

Just seen on another thread that some tickets may be come available, so will be watching that closely!

If you aren't going to attend the game I'd wait for another opportunity.

You'll be able to get tickets relatively easy for all remaining home games

The day out for your kids would be 1000x better if they actually got to go to the match

To each his own, but I couldn't imagine taking my kids all that way and then not being able to get them into the stadium.

That was exactly my thoughts

Seems cruel to take them to the fan zone before the match , surrounded by match going fans, and then just before kick off drag them away from the stadium to a pub

Might just want to have a look-see around the stadium tbh. He's probably not going to get tickets like.

It’s Christmas lads. He’s also going to see family. This has nothing to do with whether he can get tickets or not. He can do that another time, he’s allowed into Sunderland more than once. He just wants to know what to do on this particular occasion as he’s travelling anyway. Can’t see why this has turned into an argument.

It’s the SMB, pre Xmas drinkypoo’s like a trainee friday night defeat at home

Aye, as a kid you'd half think your dad's just been joking about not going and he's going to pull tickets out when you get there if you're walking up to the ground! Even the suggestion of going to the sea front might not be great depending on weather.

If it had to be the Leeds game I'd probably just say go to the city centre, maybe take the bairns bowling and stuff, possibly call in at the fans museum. Maybe go to Roker to watch the match if the weather is okay so they can see the coastline. But aye, if flexible on the date something like palace or Brighton you'd probably get 3 together on resale, maybe even on general sale. Especially for Brighton because I'm guessing they won't take the full away allocation. Ideal one would be Burnley now it's a Monday night, but appreciate can't really do that with kids in school

I know man. Everything has to be something, instead of just being the thing.

Or something.🤣

It’s a day out. Better than sitting at home. Also not cruel if they know exactly what you’re gonna be doing. Just don’t say “we’re going to the match” then take them to a pub!!🤣

Gotta understand, just being in amongst it will be a buzz for people who aren’t used to it and don’t get to experience it often, if ever. Then bring them back for a match in the new year.

Oh aye if he's gonna be in Sunderland anyway, then it'll be a bit of crack going to see the crowds , the pubs , the fans museum, beacon etc... but I wouldn't go out of my way to take kids for a day out like that without adding in going to the actual match

Bear in mind though they’re not from round here. Being in Sunderland alone will be great for them.

I know, deluded rtg will be all over this.🤣🤣

Like a say if they are here anyway then fair enough. But if they are driving to Cumbria from Surrey I wouldn't be making a detour for it. Personally

Are you stuck on the Leeds match? There’s restrictions on this one without purchase history. You can snag tickets for other matches through resale.

Why not come for a game when you can get tickets?
I'll try and do that as well - but will be up anyhow visiting my parents
If you’re organised you can get a ticket for every home game apart from Leeds & Newcastle. Just be ready when the tickets are released. Only Man City I’ve missed out on
One son plays rugby on a Saturday and the other football on a Sunday, so with that and work the logistics aren't easy. Just sods law that it's Leeds over Christmas and tickets are restricted.

Hopefully I'll find another opportunity
