Help me plan a day in Sunderland

We're on Sky so actually watching the match Stack or Stables.

Pre match I'd go to the Beacon for the kids.

If watching the match, and if at the stables, catch the post match foot fall on the new bridge especially if we get a result.

Away from the football, definitely the sea front.

Even better if watching match from stables run along to sol on about 80 minutes n catch last ten for nowt.

Appreciate its not Surrey but there is a suppporters club in London (apologies if you're already aware). The one up here in Scotland are good for arranging tickets where possible so maybe worth a try:

I personally wouldn't be looking at outdoor venues in December!

There has been some decent suggestions. Pier (weather dependent) and the fans Museum. If you want authentic Sunderland then the Bungalow cafe is good for breakfast / brunch and great views of the beach.

I recently did the Fire Station for lunch just after 1pm, getting quiet as the match goers are leaving and no TVs then watched the match in the Canny Lad. Kid friendly and there's booths and telly at the back.

Thanks to everyone who responded to this post.

Ended up booking into The Magnum Hotel just opposite (where I once lived in Castletown, 35 years ago), walked to the SOL along the river in the morning, got lost and ended up in the building site for the Keel bridge and had to jump the fence (the kids managed to fit under). Founds the boys bricks at the SOL, went in the shop, boys did puppy dog eyes in the ticket office - but didn't work. Met my brother and kids at Roker, walked up to the Stack and had lunch/watched the match (disappointing result!). Then walked back into the town along the beach for Sheepfolds and Keel Bridge. Kids knackered now, so seems to have been a successful day. They still want to attend a match however, so will have to find a time to do it all again...

It seems you made quite a day of it, though not being at the match will have been a disappointment for you and the kids.

Hopefully you'll get another opportunity to get to the match, when buying tickets will be much easier, and more accessible to you and the kids.

Love this. Proper little Sunderland adventure
Had my own mooching around SoL and fans museum and city occasionally

It was all for dad (me) like. Kids man, get in front of the gates/sign/statue/old shirts for a photo and bloody smile will you

And we live close unlike you, but things like that are lovely to cherish

Match next up then. Mine have only seen it half empty for friendlies etc so am with you on that

Sounds canny! Leeds and mags were the only restricted sale games so I reckon any others you'll get tickets for. And no doubt people on here would help you if needed. Make sure you let us know if you get the chance to come up for another one and we'll make sure you get the bairns in there. At least it was only a draw this time, they'll love it when they get into the ground and we hammer someone!

Let me know who we are scheduled to score 5 or more against, and I'll get the tickets booked for that one... 😉

Even the staff at the hotel were logging in at breakfast to try and sort some tickets!

Will have to prioritise the fans museum next time, just couldn't make it today
