ID checks for away tickets

Allowing for home cup games, Sheff Utd league game etc, it means you do about 5 aways a season. So at that rate you probably only want to do about 4 away this season in the premier league so not much disappointment really.
Well of course its going to be disappointing. Especially when plenty are going to away games with 0 points.

My plan is to continue to see the absolute buzz on my son’s face every time he finds out he is going to an away game, seeing his hero’s and experiencing new grounds ….
So then what you twisting for? You were saying it was a joke that he might not get tickets 2 posts ago

But not that disappointing because they weren’t that fussed the last 3 seasons

Give over man. Not everyone has the finances to do loads of away games. The current system is better for me but I totally get why some may be a bit miffed.

Unfortunately, I do think this was just a Man City thing rather than a regular occurance going forward but I wouldn't be surprised to see it come in full time at some point in the future and personally I cannot wait to see it happen
Think blokes complaining about not getting tickets can fuck off tbf. Didn’t support us away in league 1 and championship, shouldn’t support us away in premier. Under 18s these days fair enough can’t start going, wouldn’t be opposed to a 5/10% ballot strictly for under 18s
Thing is I assume under 14/16 need to be accompanied by an adult anyway so any ballot would have a very small age range anyway

It’s better for the people who do the most aways like it should be. A small percentage game the system like people do in most things. ID checks etc might come in, no issue with that. Just mental listening to people crying on about it when they can’t get a ticket for Liverpool etc when they suddenly have the finances for that

Suppose u could include an under 14/16 with an adult into that ballot, good point

The arguments were still had last year etc. Only difference is they were had for Leeds and Boro away only

This year it's every game
I would say that was a slight exaggeration. Both Sheffield trips, Hull and Burnley were difficult to get tickets for. I only got tickets for Burnley because some returns went on and I was lucky, the others I couldn’t get. The only Northern tickets available were those with big allocations like Blackburn and Preston.

Funnily enough I managed to get tickets for Swansea and Cardiff easily, and they were similar allocations. Points farmers weren’t interested in buying for these, knowing that they would go to general sale and they would struggle to sell them on.

People can play down the points farmers as much as they want but it is definitely a bigger problem than some think. I know several people who have been to a lot of away games this season with nowhere near enough loyalty points. My son has mates at school who regularly get tickets from a source who they reckon has 50 tickets to sell for each away game.

We have to be very careful as a club not to isolate the young'uns and the next generation. Agree about the under 18's.

Yeah my daughter has numerous friends who go to away games all the time and don't even have STs

I managed to get 17 points from last season (I started on 12 and 10 of those were from the season before ) so it was absolutely possible to build up your points

The issue is that people suggesting the ballot don't seem realise it is not the golden ticket they think it is.

You're probably talking about 300 tickets (based on 10% of a 3000 allocation) to be shared between potentially (extreme I know) tens of thousands of fans.

The loyalty point scheme is absolutely the right thing and I don't really see anyone arguing about it. I also havent seen people moaning about not being able to get tickets to Liverpool. The abuse of the loyalty point scheme is what is frustrating some. And my very simple point is that I sympathise with those in the high teens in terms of points and also not knowing people who can help them out for tickets to the odd away.

I think there is an element of people moaning about the loyalty system and calling it a closed shop now they want to go to aways in the PL but surprisingly weren't interested the last few years.

The related argument about the abuse of the loyalty system is also relevant

However, it's pretty unreasonable for people to now suddenly be moaning about being unable to get away tickets just because the fancy a trip to Old Trafford or Anfield and demanding changes to the system/introducing ballots etc.

I think what this thread highlights is the need for some serious thought from the club as to what the way forward is with this and how emerging anti touting systems will enable their strategy.

I imagine that most people when asked “do you think their should be people in they away end with no points and often not even a season card”- the resounding answer would be no.

If they were then asked “Do you think a supporter whose followed the lads up and down the country for 20 years should be allowed to take his young lad with him to Anfield?” The resounding answer would be yes.

“Should players be allowed to invite their close family to Anfield to watch them play in the Premier League?” - Probably

“Should a business that pays hundreds of thousands pounds a year in sponsorship to the club be able to access tickets?”- again, probably.

So much of the opinion on here is realistically based on self interest. As someone who lives in the South, I’ve accessed tickets on Facebook in the past and been able to access tickets from club sponsors. There’s plenty on here that will tell you I had no right to be at the final with my lad, but who wouldn’t in the moment when given the chance.

The wider context is that there are fans who are more deserving of away tickets than those standing in the away end each week as this thread will attest do. If you’re happy with this as the status quo, then we do nothing and accept the inequality.

I personally think it is probably something the club should have on its radar.

I suspect it is already firmly on their radar and I do not envy them trying to find a solution as whatever they come up with will annoy someone

Personally, I feel the first step should be cracking down on the ticket resale to see what effect that has on the ticket sale phases - yes this means random ID checks every game but it must be communicated before it happens so fans know to have ID with them.

You can introduce ballots but if the top pointers are going to continue buying and selling on or branches using non-attending numbers to fill their buses all you are doing is taking a few hundred tickets from people in phase 2/3 to give to people who fancy an away day now we are in the PL.

I said before, I do think the novelty will wear off for a lot next year when they have done their visits to new grounds etc and tickets will naturally become more available.

Think that’s why an under 18 ballot makes sense, be less demand than if the ballot was for everyone I would imagine
