ID checks for away tickets

I got the email from the club last night. I wasn't sure if it was for me or grandson as he is on my account and its my email address. Went to ticket office as requested and gave my name. He had about 10 envelopes. Checked them and said didnt have one in my name but had one in my grandsons name. Told him he wasn't with me at the minute but was on my account using my email. Asked if I had id showed driving licence and he said there you go handed me ticket and have a good day. Asked him if this was a city thing and he said yes we want to know who is in our ground. No hassle at all.

Well in the train yesterday home I heard a few ppl tslking . Some were saying it was there first game away their m8 got them a ticket . Dont agree at all with this id check but this is probsbly why its happening. Happening loads every game so it keeps points high .
People off the branch coach I was on Wednesday who weren't there at Liverpool were back so there was probsbly an instance of around a dozen on Wednesday just off one coach alone . .

The id check yesterday was a City thing bud. I understand it’s not going to be common practice - at least in the short-term

It’s more to do with security I’d imagine.
At the minute anyone get hold of a ticket anonymously

When you say you understand, what’s that from, just other posters on here? Or do you have a club contact

There was a Canadian fan there yesterday. Highly doubt he has a season ticket or has been to many away games. Was on a branch bus. Granted the club could have given him a ticket but that doesn't seem fair.

There was a kid at liverpool standing next to us who didnt have a season ticket.

I dont know how many people get tickets like this but it seems to be a lot. If those on high points not going to games didnt get them then those on low points would have a chance.

Thats 2 games, 2 massive clubs. games where those than have done the miles in league 1/championship should get the chance to go to the games but seemingly deciding to give them to others instead.

If those on low points had "done the miles" in L1 / Championship they wouldn't be on low points

I’ll say it again. There is absolutely no need to “do the miles” to get a point.

It costs less than £600 Pa to buy a ticket to every away game if you’re on 60 plus points. Even if you bin half of them and only attend the “big” games, it’s still a bargain.

If everyone did that the away end would be half empty every week.

If it’s the lad I’m thinking of, he has a season card mate - despite living in Canada. Pretty sure he gets to at least 5-6 aways a season as well

this^^
there was a youngun of the 'sit where you want' brigade at fulham behind us (he didn't last long before getting skittled) bemoaning the lack of atmosphere and tourists in the away end. i was earwigging his conversation with his mate and his last game was luton last season.

this is why id checks are a good idea.

Pet hate of mine the sit where you want brigade

I’m willing to wager that a very large percentage of those championing the use of ID checks as a method to control the suggested passing on of tickets, would also be in the very large percentage of people that would be against a National ID card scheme.
Hypocrisy

What’s really happening is that people are whinging that they can’t get what they want, when they want it.
The but, but, but brigade will be along shortly.

not sure if you're on about me but i have no issue with national id cards. that's a different debate though.
I got told by a supervisor steward yesterday that the ID checks are a "City thing" as they want to know who's in their ground.

So not something which will be happening going forward
the bloke at the counter we had to deal with said he much preferred paper tickets as it was a lot less hassle for him.

Its not just a city thing,it's a premier league thing. The premier league have a big push against touting tickets. The premier league ask clubs to try and put something like this in place to combat touting.

City are maybe that bit more compliant with the premier league at the moment
