Luke O'Nien

Absolutely delighted for him, but he looked like a little boy lost to me, pleased he has got on in the Premier League though.

His first ever PL game, after 6 months out injured, with 7 minutes of frantic stoppage time, marking Mo Salah at Anfield as Liverpool chase a winner and throw on 10 forwards.

I think most players would need some time to adjust.

And to think i thought Kevin Ball was Mr Sunderland both Legends & surely better deserved honary degrees at Sunderland University than little & Large Howe and Burn at Newcastle University ffs man what a joke that club is.

This wasnt just a box ticker . Luke will play a role when squad reduced by AFCON . Also we will see Rigg, Mundle Neil and others .

Joyce the chef who the club have done a few articles about and featured on STID broke her leg a couple of years ago and Luke went round hers almost every other day just to bring her shopping and other bits and bobs

I know this as a fact as I know her son pretty well.

When I asked her son why Luke was doing it and not him he said it’s because he lives in Middlesbrough 😂

Just shows the character of Luke O’Nien really and not many footballers would do stuff like that.

Not ashamed to say i had a tear in my eye when Xhaka hugged him.

Don’t even know why. But to have seen O’nien come in 7 years ago and just get it, and come to typify the club.. and now Xhaka (who could have been at a bigger club if he wanted) do exactly the same and clearly appreciate just how much that meant tonight for 🧅 to make his PL debut, it’s magical.
