Australia v England, 2nd Test, 4th December 0400

49 wickets at 42 and 5 first class wickets in 3 games last summer a proper McCullum special.
Pink Ball is pretty much like a white ball game tbh.

I think shoring up with the extra batsman isn't the worst idea.

The issue is more they've handpicked Bashir for this tour, kept in the side so he was ready for it. Then haven't selected him in the first two tests.

Embarrassing coaching really

Stokes solely apparently ,recommended Bashir, and now virtually admitted that he was an incorrect call but not a great deal of damage done as there isn't an alternate knocking the door down. That batting line up is potentially very strong batting down to 10. Just hope they bat the conditions and not go full bazball regardless
Parkside post directly above,not mackembhoy

@Parkside well I don't think it was just the clips on twitter, as Swann was very impressed with him on the Lions in the UAE iirc

But that was how he came across Bashir and probably how he got selected for the Lions. It's definitely not the way to pick people for England.

Full bazball if we win toss and bat first would be a good idea tbf. Score 300 in two sessions and get them in under lights(easier said than done)

People keep asking us to bat sensibly, but I don't actually think it's a case of being 'sensible', I just don't think we are very good.

Crawley would get out even if he was told to just survive, same goes for a few of them.

We need Brook and Root to get runs or it's curtains.

I was of the impression that Stokes had caught a glimpse of him on tv and based his hunch solely on that. Certainly, though,if we're going to develop a spinner Swann should be heavily involved in both selection and development process.
If we bat 1st, I'd argue bat sensibly and consolidate, the pink ball will be 50+overs by tea on the 1st day, can't see it behaving erratically in that condition.
Bat long for 5 sessions and then attack with a new ball after tea on 2nd day under lights.
I know which option our lot will go for, however.

Travis Head played with aggression and was fantastic to watch, but they key difference was that he used his brain .

seems a top bloke too.

Just so you know

“The first time I saw him was on Twitter,” said Ben Stokes when asked where he first set eyes on Shoaib Bashir’s off-breaks.

“I think the County Championship [account] put a little clip together of him bowling against Sir Alastair. I’m in a WhatsApp group with Keysy and Baz. I actually did forward the clip on and said, ‘have a look at this, this could be something we could work with on our India tour’ and it just progressed from there. He got selected on the Lions tour and obviously the coaches on that tour fed back everything to us.”

The pink ball games are partially skill and partially luck. I just hope we win toss and bat first as that's going to be the best way to control the lucky parts if we can have runs behind us.

In an ideal world we bat 4/5 sessions like you said and the first night under lights is negated due to the age of the ball and it's been hit around the park.

Confirmed by Stuart Broad
"If you can get a brand new ball under the floodlights at the Gabba, you should be taking wickets and you can break the game open," said Broad.

"It is all about timing a little bit of when you bowl with the brand new ball.

"That is why I don't like bowling first in pink-ball cricket because you bowl with a brand new ball in daylight and it doesn't do a lot.

"By the time you get to the twilight period the ball is 60 overs old and doesn't do anything - and the new ball comes too late in the day.

So win the toss and bat for a day and a half.

Or with our over rates the next day and miss the whole twilight advantage

Head set to open, Inglis in the middle order. Lyon looks like he’ll play, Cummins may replace Doggett.

Inglis seems really highly rated by many over there. Khawaja looks absolutely finished IMO so it is likely to strengthen their batting line-up slightly, but I can't help but feel that Head is so dangerous at number 5 that you wouldn't want to move him permanently without exhausting other options first.

Doggett looked surprisingly dangerous in the first test, if I was Australia I think I'd leave out Lyon if Cummins was fit, and replace Green with Webster for some spin. Not a chance will they do that though.

Is Webster not a medium pacer?
