Northern trains

I stay to the end of the match, and with the various stoppages during the game, I fully expected to miss my intended train home (17:30pm GC) and was looking to get either of the 17:49 or 18:01 trains.

I went to get a post match pint in the Three Storeys, but service at the bar was far too slow (as usual) so I gave up & went to the train station and luckily, the 17:30 GC was still at the platform, and when I got seated, I was told the 18:01 Northern Train was being cancelled.

Yes, you need a ticket to get on the platform at Hartlepool, as there's ticket gates ahead of the platform, which are manned by BR staff.
Wounded for the sake of 1 pint we never took this option. Will do in future.

Fecking despise Northern!

Worst travel day yet.

Hpool 12 delayed. Then a disabled woman couldnt fit on. Disgrace yes but they discussed it 20 more minutes before leaving her behind.

Coming back refused entry on 3 trains so had to taxi it. Will take this up with the fuckwirs but expect minimal compensation.

Shite.

Drive up and stop being so dependant on having a drink ffs.

I don’t go much these days but when I do and when the family do we get train up from Seaton and taxi back from Hilton cost £42 or £63 for mini bus 👍
No way would I take grandbairns on trains back.

In what 40 years going to match never seen owt like yesterday.

Our game/xmas shoppers/xmas doos/hen doos etc/newcastle races.

Perfect storm really.

If you take family book on GC, no bother.

I was stood in that bit where they opened the cab so the conductor could pass through, absolutely rammed. Didn’t realise it was an express so wouldn’t stop at Billingham. Had to get off at Hartlepool and get a taxi home from there.

Got the 12:50 from Billingham, was rammed too, lots going to Newcastle for Xmas parties. Some people didn’t even get on at Billingham, the platform was the busiest I’ve seen it
You were lucky you got off at Hartlepool. Some git decided to kick everyone out of the bog and take a dump after that, leaving a horrendous vile stench behind. Made worse by being a packed train and we couldn't escape it.

That 12.50 was packed as it left Thornaby as was the 11.40 from York. I will have to drive up for the mags game. Not worth risking it.

Spot on assessment - though need to add reference to the cancellation of the two southbound trains scheduled for just after 5pm and 6pm, leading to absolute chaos.

Despite there being room for more people on the 7.00pm-ish train, people on board refused to move down the carriage. Police and station staff refused to help - leading to frayed tempers, people shouting and screaming etc and a total crush. It was absolute carnage.

Two of us ultimately managed to fight our way onto the 8.00pm (two carriages FFS!) train, to endure a jam-packed crush just inside the door. It was a horrific experience. Absolute Hell in fact.

The idiots putting on two carriages on matchdays to and from Sunderland should be made to travel on the service. As others have said, is it really that difficult to run extra services on matchdays? Northern Rail are just not fit for purpose.

I’m not one to stick up for them because the “service” is abysmal. However I’m sure they don’t have carriages lying around during the week to put extra on for a busy weekend.

From 14th December, Grand Central trains on our North East route will call at Seaham. Tickets are now live - secure your seat to Seaham today!
Should make things easier on Derby day and home matchdays!

Nee chance they’ll be checking tickets from seaham either I’d imagine? They normally start clearing the trains when GC leaves Hartlepool

If anything like last weekend they can add as many stops as they like, nee one getting on heading to the match. Pretty full by the time it reached Hartlepool last weekend.

Hope they'll put at least 4 carriages on.

Stand corrected. Northern Rail is where the problem has been. 👍

My train was cancelled today, again. Bus didn't turn up this morning either. No matter, it was great to complete the final inspection in Newcastle today and worked with some great people; reminding every single last mother-fooking one of them that mind the gap still applies.
