I worked in Durham 1984 to 1990 and I'd say it was predominantly 80-20 in favour of Sunderland. It probably is still more Sunderland if you only count match goers but the unwashed tv support has ballooned since then. Generally, inadequates who are hoping to identify with some sort of success.Serious question
Has Durham always been riddled with mags ?
Or maybe it’s worse now with social media? Making them more visible?
You've nailed itAnyone who supports Geordie Arabia from Durham has no strong father figure in their life, end of discussion
Blaydons in County DurhamSing the blaydon races when they win as well haway WHED
Because Blaydons in County Durham,If that's the case, why do the team sing The Blaydon Races in the dressing room just before they go out on to the pitch?
Again Stockton County Durham. At one point all of County Durham had good rail links with Sunderland. Bishop Auckland, Spenny & Durham all had direct rail links. Thank Dr Beeching for removing themNot being funny, but those Stockton fans should have links to the club/city i.e family history, work, uni etc.
If they have nothing affiliating them then they should be supporting 'boro.
Hm! The closest club South Shields is Sunderland, for a lot of people there, closer than a lot of people who live in Sunderland! You can't just generalise with rivers. South Tyneside has a large numbers of our support.Let's agree that CLS is equidistant from the respective city centres and football stadium. But it takes less than 5mins to reach the City of Sunderland boundary from Chester and at least 30mins to Newcastle's. Thats not the same distance to the cities in my eyes.
There is nothing basic about geography mate. If rivers mean nothing then why did so many people move to them in the 1st place?
People who live on the same river, use its water, share its benefits should share commonality. That includes supporting its football team.
We have to remember the likes of Consett and Stanley are in Durham , I worked there in 80s and all seemed to be mags from memory though I know we do have a Consett branchI worked in Durham 1984 to 1990 and I'd say it was predominantly 80-20 in favour of Sunderland. It probably is still more Sunderland if you only count match goers but the unwashed tv support has ballooned since then. Generally, inadequates who are hoping to identify with some sort of success.

I think a lot of people are getting confused.Hm! The closest club South Shields is Sunderland, for a lot of people there, closer than a lot of people who live in Sunderland! You can't just generalise with rivers. South Tyneside has a large numbers of our support.
I think a lot of people are getting confused.
Wearside and Tyneside aren't the same.
The City of Sunderland encompasses all of Wearside, North and South.
The City of Newcastle only has the North side of the Tyne.
South Tynesiders from South Shields Jarra etc can legitimately follow either.
Just rules in my head marra!Using those rules Manchester United isn't in Manchester and London doesn't have a football club...
10s of thousands of them unfortunatelyAny wearside born mag is a disgrace.
I can't speak for Stanley and Consett but any SAFC fan on here from CLS will tell you that it hasn't always been predominantly black and white. Those three towns have always been predominantly black and white unfortunately. The dark side of County Durham.
The Blaydon Races or Sunderland Aces? You might be older than me and be able to correct me but I went to my first match in the 1980-81 season and can't remember ever hearing us sing TBR.Safc fans used to sing it too.
I'll be honest and admit that I've got no idea about what boroughs and counties certain towns were historically in but in the 45 years I've been aware of TBR, it's always been associated with NCL/NUFC.Was just a regional song, and there was greater affinity between County Durham towns, and less between north and south of the Tyne compared to today.
Based on match goers who has the most fans ? Nothing else interests me tbhI’m in DH1, surrounded by plastic Mags.
I don’t have many friends who are mags but none of them had any views on Saudi before the takeover and none since. That's true but it's hard to quantify what the stats are given the difference in status between the clubs recently. I think a lot of black and whites will not be happy being associated with a regime that is barbarian, authoritarian, fascistic and treats women and gays abominably.
I wouldn't want to be associated with that regime. Not only for the aforementioned reasons. It makes a mockery of the rules about who should own a football club and who shouldn't. The FA or whoever makes the rules have lowered the bar so far it's now underground. The Saudis aren't interested in football just the kudos it brings to a backward authoritarian regime. Countries should not be allowed to buy football clubs period.I don’t have many friends who are mags but none of them had any views on Saudi before the takeover and none since.
I’d be the same if the Saudi’s owned us.
Fair pointNo, made up boundaries or rivers aren’t a deciding factor in who a kid chooses to support and I find it strange how fixated this place seems to be about that. Gateshead town centre is historically County Durham and you can literally see St James from the high street. Blaydon also historically County Durham. Again, why would anyone expect Blaydon to be a Sunderland area just because it’s in County Durham? I could go on. Other than family influence, it’s just basic geography that dictate who most people choose to support and so it’s not surprising for a town in the middle of Sunderland and Newcastle to be broadly split in support.
It's the same throughout the region. Regular Express bus services to N*****le, some every 20 of 30 minutes. All roads lead there and to the Metro Centre. Rail links too. You never see regular Express busses to Sunderland. This is no doubt due to the popularity of shopping on the dark side and total lack of quality shops in Sunderland. This has been evident for decades and we can only hope that the changing dynamic in Sunderland's city centre can attract the quality outlets to return and new companies to move in. This should be priority number one for the local authority as it tries to entice the public to move into the city centre. It's in CLS, which is at least 60 - 40 NUFC, if not 70 - 30.
I know loads on here will disagree but having been brought up there, it's the truth.
Sunderland have a significant supporters club but that's down to the crap transport links to Sunderland compared to Newcastle.
Both. Blaydon Races before my time too. Up to 70s at least though. The Blaydon Races or Sunderland Aces? You might be older than me and be able to correct me but I went to my first match in the 1980-81 season and can't remember ever hearing us sing TBR.
