Is Durham cricket club a mag place?

Got to be careful with that view mind, as people from the likes of Stockton could say why are people not supporting Middlesbrough when they're on the Tees and next door to it.

There's a lot of support from down that way.
Not being funny, but those Stockton fans should have links to the club/city i.e family history, work, uni etc.

If they have nothing affiliating them then they should be supporting 'boro.

Traditionally County Durham innit?
When did places like Blaydon, Swalwell, Hebburn cease to be County Durham?
Kids either go where they are taken by family members who attend, or where their mates go.
I live in Birtley. If my Uncle, who took me to my first Newcastle game, had been a Sunderland supporter then that’s where I would have gone. My Grandad was a life long Fulham fan so he didn’t ‘inherit’ Newcastle that way. It was where his mates went so he went.

Nope. I live in South Shields, but support Sunderland.

How does your logic compute that fact ?
Sunderland and Newcastle are so close they are almost 2 cities sharing a conurbation.

There are places in between which are close enough geographically and have a right to support both. Shields is such a place. Birtley parts of Gateshead and obviously Washington.

Chester shouldn't be an extension of that. I don't believe its between both.

Durham CC should be 100% red and white, but im biased.

Those three towns have always been predominantly black and white unfortunately. The dark side of County Durham.
That's true but it's hard to quantify what the stats are given the difference in status between the clubs recently. I think a lot of black and whites will not be happy being associated with a regime that is barbarian, authoritarian, fascistic and treats women and gays abominably.

It's in CLS, which is at least 60 - 40 NUFC, if not 70 - 30.

I know loads on here will disagree but having been brought up there, it's the truth.

Sunderland have a significant supporters club but that's down to the crap transport links to Sunderland compared to Newcastle.
Warra load of bollocks

It’s too out of the way to go and watch footy like, plenty of bars on the Main Street if you want to go and watch the footy I imagine cheaper prices as well

Probably for the cricket forum this, but this seems to be related - what’s the current position with potential PIF investment in Durham CCC?

Bostock was on The Analyst podcast in early 2025 IIRC & it sounded like it was something that was going to happen. Seems to have gone quiet.

But you said people on the same river share the commonality and should support it’s football team 🤷‍♂️

Which is clearly a load of rubbish no matter how you want to interpret it

I believe the PIF wants the northern Hundred franchise.

I washed my hands of DCC when the first place they went to show off the title trophy was Syd James’s. Would Yorkshire go to Man Utd game to exhibit a trophy? Would Notts gan to whatever name the shed that replaced The Baseball Grounds gannin under nowadays?
Well said Riff.
