Is Durham cricket club a mag place?

It's in CLS, which is at least 60 - 40 NUFC, if not 70 - 30.
You'll have to let me know the next time it's in the Census, as I've never seen any official figures.
I know loads on here will disagree but having been brought up there, it's the truth.
We will because it simply isn't true. I've lived in CLS since 1978 and have got no idea what the exact split is. What I do know is that there's 3 SAFC fans on the estate where I live and three NUFC fans. The three SAFC fans have season tickets and none of the NUFC fans attend games. Two of them have never been to SJP and one of them actually told me in 1992 that he'd always supported Sunderland. While the SAFC fans in CLS are more interested in going to games, the NUFC fans are more interested in putting flags up in bars and ultras stickers on lamp posts. SJP could have a capacity of 100,000 and they'd still make no attempt to attend matches.
Sunderland have a significant supporters club but that's down to the crap transport links to Sunderland compared to Newcastle.
Surely, the supporters club was set up primarily for away games but it sums up the Chester Mags that they chose to support a team because it's a 10 minute train ride away rather than the one that plays in the county where they were born.

There was/is a pub I’ve seen mentioned on here in the Tynemouth area that was a meeting point for all our games on tele for local lads fans who lived there, the Cumberland Arms iirc.

It never has been. It’s always just been a town in its own right that sits near enough in the middle of the two cities and unsurprisingly has a split of support. If anything Newcastle is massively advantaged with the A1 and railway making it far easier to get to and from Newcastle. Obviously most people won’t choose to support someone because of how easy it is to get to, but it could be a factor for floating/casual fans or kids whose parents weren’t into football.

The river has nowt to do with it though. The town is equal in distance from the two cities.
Your missing my point. The river should have everything to do with it. Not some artificial construct which enables faster travel to their city centre. Lazy fat bastards
If that's the case, why do the team sing The Blaydon Races in the dressing room just before they go out on to the pitch?
Ohhh shit you just gone and done it 🫣

Who knew there were more arseholes in CLS than normal functioning humans

Why would someone base who they support on a river? It’s just basic geography is all I was saying, Chester is about the same equal distance to both places so why is anybody surprised there is a split?

Let's agree that CLS is equidistant from the respective city centres and football stadium. But it takes less than 5mins to reach the City of Sunderland boundary from Chester and at least 30mins to Newcastle's. Thats not the same distance to the cities in my eyes.

There is nothing basic about geography mate. If rivers mean nothing then why did so many people move to them in the 1st place?

People who live on the same river, use its water, share its benefits should share commonality. That includes supporting its football team.

Well it's been added to my boycott list from now on. Shame as I called in a few times when out with the dog round that way.

Got to be careful with that view mind, as people from the likes of Stockton could say why are people not supporting Middlesbrough when they're on the Tees and next door to it.

There's a lot of support from down that way.

 The founders of Nottingham Forest shouldn’t have bothered setting up then, they should’ve all followed Stoke City. The 5 minutes to the City of Sunderland boundary only became a thing in 1974 when Houghton and the likes got swallowed up, so it’s not even a full couple of generations ago - hardly enough time for the populace to wake up one morning and decide to change who they support because they live a few mins drive from a Welcome to Sunderland sign in Shiney Row and then the support is forever carried down the next generation(s).

Prior to 74 boundary change Sunderland was also in County Durham, does that not have any bearing on the support?

Of course not because like I said before, do you honestly think Gateshead town centre, Dunston, Teams, Blaydon, Winlaton, Whickham, Bensham should all be predominantly red and white because they’re in County Durham? Despite them being a stones throw from Newcastle and can see St James from most of these places. All those places are as close to Newcastle as what Ryhope is to Sunderland city centre. County Durham is a decent sized place, stretching as far west as nearly Penrith. People have never chosen their football teams based on the county it’s in.

Never met a lads fan from there presumed it was 90/10 mag but admittedly have limited experience there.

Also remember some mag vlogger kicking off and calling anyone from there who wasn’t a toon fan an embarrassment

Also the infamous 90s documentary there it seems everyone on that estate is decked out in broon ale attire
Lot's of Sunderland fans in CLS but they don't wear their colours all the time like the plastics do, same in Stanley and Consett.
