It really did. They would line them up (And I dd every bugger who took them , I'm not singling out a single player here) and I would just say guaranteed to hit the 1st man, in the hope I would be proved wrong but most of the times it seemed to hit the 1st man. I think that's why I was so shocked by Ballards goal V Coventry but this season it does seem totally different.
 

If memory serves me correctly, we scored between 20 and 25% of our goals from set pieces last season. It was a big change from previous seasons.

Just from watching us this season, we win a lot of aerials both in open play and set pieces. We have outmatched a number of teams physically. And not every team has a set piece taker as good as Xhaka.

There must be something else as well as two years ago we didnt score a goal from a corner for like 9 months and we had Ballard playing regularly. And we didnt score many with Ballard, Batth and Stewart either

And that was a load of trick plays for Hume or cirkin as well

Attacking set pieces - 4.4xG created which is 6th best in the PL.

Defensive set pieces - only 2.61 xG conceded which is also 6th best in the PL, but it's so tight between 6th, 5th and 4th that we're 0.16 xG away from being 4th best instead of 6th.

Top 6 on both attacking and defensive set pieces is absolutely massive, especially given our struggles from set pieces in recent seasons.

It wasn't that long ago we didn't even have routines from attacking set pieces and seemed to concede a goal every second time we conceded one.

The 1 goal scored from 130 corners stat feels a long time ago now!

Off field signings often don't get the credit they deserve, but Brayne is right up there with the most important signings we made this summer.

It also helps having someone who can deliver a good corner. Xhaka is our best crosser of the ball (open play or dead ball) I have ever seen for us. There's no one who comes consistently close.
 
A massive difference is defending of set pieces as much as we look dangerous from them. Not too long ago it felt like we were going to concede every time we give a corner away.

We looked fairly comfortable defending them v Arsenal I thought.

That's a big achievement in itself given how good they are from them.
 
Never working at a higher level.
We’ve changed a championship team but never the personnel who are championship coaches?
 
Been a weakness all season because we have the players. We have the delivery and we have the height. We should be one of the best in the league at set pieces. We are completely missing the details. Set piece coach has to go. Get a good one in.
