Matt Young - Thoughts from a Salford Fan

Re: Roefs it wouldn't really matter how much we'd want for him (if we have/had a plan to sell him on to promote Young), but how desperate other clubs are to pay for him.

If Man United are flapping about still, we could make them overpay. If it's Liverpool viewing him as a potential replacement for Alisson, then they won't be overpaying.

If he keeps up his early form then we should be expecting atleast £30m. If some mad fuckers come in desperate for a keeper then we should add another £10m+ on to that.

Think £30m is very lowball based on what we've seen from Roefs so far. Only 8 games but he has everything you'd want from a top level keeper and is still so young. Keeps that up for the rest of the year, and if we stay up then you'd be looking at £50m minimum.

We'll do well to hang on to Roefs for more than another season, I'd be looking at getting Young in the Championship if possible next summer to give him a season to prep.

Could we recall him and send to L1 in Jan?

How old was Pickford when he was number 2? I remember him as a kid, probably the best young keeper I've seen.

I know Given was class when he was here, but the game has moved on a lot and Pickfords distribution was absolutely incredible along with being an excellent goalkeeper at such a young age.

Admittedly I've seen nothing of Young at this point but he sounds like an excellent prospect.
It wasn't until the January of the 2015-16 season that we saw Pickford as number 2 after he came back from his loan with Preston, by that time he was 21yo and had played over 100 games out on loan. There's no need to rush Young, another couple of years out on loan is better than having an 18yo sat on the bench here.

Spot on, there's no rush, send the lad back out on loan and continue his development hopefully to a higher league 1 or championship club would be good...

Seen the lad has been out of the Salford team for a while? Was he injured or suspended or something? We ideally need him playing while there not sat on the bench or in the stands.

How's Young doing at the moment, Salford 6th in Division 4 currently, just 4 points off the top, and looks like he's started nearly every game.

Would be great if he has continued to improve and ends up being our second choice behind Roefs.

He 100% shouldn’t be our number 2. Would be terrible for him

Does anyone know how he’s actually performing?

Obviously good enough to be starting every game but Salford do seem to have conceded a lot of goals for a team 4th in the league. Defence could be shite like.

He was captain which is bizarre, can’t think of many (or any) loan players who get made captain. Cole Stockton who has years of experience started the game too.
