No they can'tSeen someone claim the benches on the bridge can be retracted on match days. Doesn't look like they can from what I can see. Is it true do we know?
The clue as to where it is is also in the name.
I don't wish to get into an argument with a cyclist so I will leave it there.
There are 9 million bicycles in Beijing..All the cyclists in china
That's a factThere are 9 million bicycles in Beijing..
You’d think it was an Indiana Jones style rope bridge the way some are going on…It's 30 feet wide. Think we'll be alright.
We're going for a ride! You’d think it was an Indiana Jones style rope bridge the way some are going on…
My point was that there is impressive infrastructure for cyclists on the route you mention. The promenade is not part of that facility but parallel to part of it . It is the walkway immediately adjacent to the beach from the Cat and Dog steps to The North restaurant. I know it is not a cycle lane but not all cyclists are also aware of that. They could chose to dismount and enjoy this area with the many pedestrians but ...It was a genuine question.
When I said “the cycle lane down the beach” I was referring to the entire cycle lane from Roker RNLI up to Souter Lighthouse.
I’m unsure which bit of that you mean by the promenade? The bit opposite stack?

The triple-A (Access All Areas) cyclists also use the totally unsuitable cliff-top pathway from Whitburn to Souter Lighthouse.
I expect that you are a responsible cyclist but sadly too many are not. People that are traveling on foot are also not endangering the planet . They also should be given respect and consideration.
If I was "Scared of change" I wouldn't be voting Labour , as they've changed the city entirely in the last 5 years.
I despair that these people
I'm hoping that when people are walking to and from the match over the next few months , it slowly starts to dawn how much the city has changed for the better. Against all the odds.
The new bridge is absolutely critical to this.
The sheepfolds development and the new construction college next to the stadium are now 5 mins walk to the town centre . And the rest of sheepfolds will be developed in the next few years off the back of this. The whole vaux site, keel square , fire station area, culture house, and the new eye infirmary link into it all. It's been very smart planning and with the bridge open we're gonna see a massive benefit
It's immeasurable how important the new bridge is. I just hope people can see it and give credit where credit is due
1.30 isn't it?
I agree with all of that but the Labour Party is now Starmer's Labour - today he's doing another purge, a purge of his policy units and replacing them with right wingers from the obnoxious Tony Blair Institute.
Graeme Miller & Co were largely responsible for the city's great leap forward then Starmer's Labour North (The mouth piece up here of Labour HQ) stabbed Miller & Driscoll in the back.
Voting for Starmer's Labour in Sunderland is voting for Starmer's treachery. At the moment I'd vote Green but by the time the elections come around in May there may well be other choices.
Will there be fans about that time of the morning - and it's pretty dark and dank then?
I'm sorry you feel that way, but any vote not for Labour is a vote for Reform unfortunately. So when they get in and ransack the place , you'll be partly responsible![]()
I still can’t, and don’t think I’ll ever understand why people don’t get the distinction between local politics/councils and government.I think we need to vastly separate Local councils and government which we should be praising the change in Sunderland.
I would never vote reform though
This. The current council have done an outstanding job reshaping the City. Not voting for them because you don’t like the current government would let Reform in and would be catastrophic for the City.I still can’t, and don’t think I’ll ever understand why people don’t get the distinction between local politics/councils and government.
Its baffling.
