Unfortunately, the most popular cycle lane down the beach seems to be the promenade. The clue for it's use is in it's name.

Me too, gonna make that road down to the bridge a lot easier to walk down for people too after the game. We’ve really needed this bridge as someone that’s been walking down that back road after games for the past six years it’s been dangerous at times. Can’t wait for next week.

Thinking about it, I'd dare so many people will be hanging around on the bridge also wanting to see what it looks like, rather than just going straight across so that will slow things down also, as will those people coming back over if not going to the match.

Will there be people on the bridge telling people to move along or stop people going back against the crowd? It's a great occasion but potentially this could end up with overcrowding and delays for those like yourself leaving it late and wanting to get to the match.

I think the social media types got all their footage during the rugby. They were all down there that day, it’s not “new” now it’s been done. Will be largely match goers especially at those times. Don’t think it’ll be as packed as people think, there’s a lot that come from the other side of town that would mean a detour to do the bridge.

Must admit I'm really surprised it's only opening at 2. Could easily be at least 20,000 (probably a conservative estimate) wanting to get across in about 45 minutes. Thought it would have made sense to open it at 12 or something to spread it out. Hopefully it'll be okay, and I'm sure it'll be spot on for future games, glad they're getting it open, but think the wolves game might be a bit of a nightmare. We'll be walking right past it but might just keep on and use the wearmouth bridge tbh.

Why nor man, many who drink in town will be seeing it as the perfect opportunity to grab an extra pint around keel square and mooch over about 2.50

Mate I don’t want to cause panic but I jumped up and down on it a bit when the rugby was on and it wobbled a bit. Saying that I’m not sure if it was the bridge or the multitude of pints and cocktails I drank that day mind.

Not everyone will be arsed with the parade, we sped past all the buggers with the rugby to get to the sheepfolds

And its exactly because of posts like this that I will continue using the Wearmouth bridge.

We are northern attendees so won’t use the bridge unless we are heading over the town after for celebrations. We never trundle over to get into the match afore 2.40 from deepest high Southwick but can vouch that 10s of thousands leave the match in a northerly direction I don’t think it will affect the clowns 🤡 picking up on the roads outside afterwards but you never know
