SOL expansion

i personally think that you can judge the supply and demand by the cups games.

looking at the big clubs these games are normally the games where 'locked out ' fans can get the tickets.

we just manage to get 15k-20k

I think some people are getting wayyy too ahead of themselves with the extension idea. we need a good 5/6 years of solid sell outs before the club will entertain the idea IMO

also we if we still in the prem next season we should set up a membership for fans without season cards. charge £30 a year and match day sale will only go on sale to these members, or a ballot for more high profile games.
Come on you can’t base it on cup games. That ludicrous.

We’ve had no hope for the best part of 10 year.

The club hasn’t took cups seriously (why should they given league status) and neither have the fans.

If we get in a position to do a palace or get to quarters and semis then crowds for cup games will increase.

Just look at the mags. They’ve created a close shop for cup games. Don’t go to all the rounds? Well you’ll not get a ticket for the final. They have to commit.

Hence them getting sellouts vs Bromley.

Before that they’d get some similar crowds for cup games.

The Saudi boys have fuckin short memories.

Christ I’ve just read the rest of your post.

Happy not to extend just some we can charge fans £30 a year for the hope of a ticket. Dear me

I think if an extension happens then transport options have to improve. It's a piece of piss getting out of SJP to Durham, Berwick, Darlington etc but even just to get to Hetton, Washington or Durham on a matchday from Sunderland is hell.
30 minute wait for a metro from St Peters after the Brentford game, and it was half from people who'd gone back to Sunderland Station, imagine the fuss if that was Gallowgate
If the link from Hylton to Washington happens, and with the foot bridge opening, it might improve things.
But moving 45k people from the stadium is a nightmare, imagine adding another 10k

To be fair, there's nothing wrong with the transport really. It's arguably one of the best in the country, much better than the likes of both Liverpool clubs, both Manchester clubs, Tottenham etc and that's before going onto the grounds in the middle of nowhere like Brighton.

Comparing to Newcastle is silly as imo they literally do have the best transport, the only place competing is West Ham with numerous railways nearby.

Really? 2 stations a 10 minute walk from the ground, one to Liverpool street and one to Stratford.

Connections from Tottenham Hale (25 min walk) and Seven Sisters (30 min) straight into Central London.

Spurs also different in that they keep their bars open so the crowds disperse slower. Something SAFC should look at.

I can't believe people are saying we shouldn't extend because when we get relegated to the Championship it'll not be full.

The Championship should not be our presumed level, we should be aiming to be an established Premier League club.
If the worst does happen and we do go down, immediate promotion should be our primary target.

We have in the past closed parts of the concourse and opened them only when the demand is there. So if there as an extra tier on the South Stand and we were relegated, the extra tier could be closed until we come back up. Only change I would make is put something over the seats so it looks less like an empty stand, a massive sponsors logo for the season would raise some funds.

All towards the centre of London though and most probably don't want to be there.

Its a canny walk to Seven Sisters and the 2 trains stations are quite limited in capacity, if I remember right but they might have been upgraded in recent years.

Most areas in Sunderland have a direct bus outside the ground really and if you don't have one from there it's only a short walk to Park Lane. It's really well connected really.

Obviously it might be difficult to Darlington but let's be honest most people aren't coming from there and if they are theyre probably driving and there's loads of parking around unlike other places aswell.

Exactly

This talk of stadium expansion is ludicrous

Thankfully it isnt happening anytime soon
Your ability to understand why it is required is absolutely ludicrous. This isnt 1970.

Red Seats, empty or filled are the last reason we would expand. Growth isn't in the gift of Tony from Marley Potts or Barry from Pelaw, but if either of them have a relative who owns a company who employs Tony and Barry then they might fancy purchasing corporate, Tony might even have his daughters wedding there and so on and so on. That is small scale, the club will be aiming much later than that.

I was on the platform aswel absolutely ridiculous the metro system is a complete mess , I got off the metro at monument on Saturday night at 5.15 and it was the same there missing metros 1000s queuing after the mags match

Ours are every bit as fickle if we're being completely fair
30k in the 3rd tier is significantly less fickle than the majority of clubs
This is once in 20 years. There needs to be a bigger sample size before the club will out down £50m or whatever.

If we go down, you'll have 5k empty seats already as the stadium is.
Best make sure we don't go down then.

I think if we do it you might as well do the east and south together, which would be about 65k ?, but I can see a huge increase in hospitality so it might add an extra 10k general admission seats to what’s on sale now. The stadium would then be on par with the top clubs in the country in terms of capacity and hospitality offering
Let under 11s in for a pound the knars

That system is already in place at some clubs no?

Its 2025 and it isnt required unless we have a sustained period of time in the Premier League and actually doing well.

Have a look to try and get a ticket for a premier league game at other clubs, bar Burnley you need to have a membership.

It’s the way forward and I have no doubt it will happen , the club makes money for from it as well. It stops your day trippers setting up free accounts and getting tickets for Arsenal at home because they were online at 10am beating genuine fans to tickets.

The Newcastle game already has a restriction of 4 home games attended last season. I can see this being the same situation for more big games going forward

For the record, our average attendance last season was 40,679 (Statcat) not 35k.
Selling out Prem games after an hour suggests the demand is real. Knocking off the segregated seats, we sell every other one of them. I simply cannot understand the nay-sayers who say expansion is not needed.
If we go down we will come back. Who cares what the Mags think (an oxymoron if ever there was one!).
We need to build an all-standing Red Wall with 10k new places in the Roker End. We need masses of hospitality in the East Stand and by Christ we need to sort out the shit-show that is the current away support situation. 2,000 empty seats! The 76 Yards could become away hospitality too (a real thing now!).
People whinge about getting away from the SoL, but if the new build included decent bars/food/screens available after a game the congestion would dissipate. There is no argument for not expanding.
The SoL will be a first-class concert venue too.
