Essex v Durham County Championship 8-11 Sept

Would people be willing to take 5 bonus points and a draw given the chance now?
If Yorkshire (and even Hampshire) lose a low scoring one this week then a draw with a decent number of bonus points wouldn't be the end of the world. Could potentially put us 3/4 points behind Yorkshire.

Exactly this … 2 batsmen contribute 210 runs , 6 others 50. It’s been the same all season…. Not enough players performing per innings with either bat or ball
I'm less concerned about the batting than I am with the bowling. It seems the only dependable bowler we have is Raine! Before this season you could have added Potts to that list of one, except that he's always disappearing off to the England set up.

Why do we have so many bowlers who are either unfit and/or too young to take a major role?

Think back to the days when Rushy/Onions lead the attack and backed up by Arshad/McCarthy/Claydon/Weighell - no where near any of that today.

Weather tomorrow is bad, not sure if we will get any play, Thursday is better with still rain so might get some play

Finally added a stream

Disappointing not to have scored at least 400 with the start we had. Bit of a brain dead moment there by Clark taking a single first ball of the over, no matter how much Parky thinks he can bat. He’s still a number 11 at the end of the day.

Hopefully Potts and Raine can come out firing and get us a quick start

The coach was on bbc this morning re stokes
Did he say anything about his shoulder or him playing any more Championship cricket this year? Would be a handy addition but I doubt he has recovered sufficiently from injury (they said 6-10 weeks at the time)

Plus I would think Stokes would take one look at him, see straight through him and decide he needs more rest before the Ashes...

Written Interview is in the bench stokes thread

Sussex rolled for 122, meaning if Hampshire win Sussex will only take 3 points from the game which takes them 16 ahead of us. A draw with full bowling bonus points moves us to within 3 of them.
333 all out and one of our few in form batsmen left stranded on 30 odd whilst batting at 7.
Looks 120 short at least to me.

Clark never tried to farm the strike, either last night or today - which I find very odd.
It’s bizarre that Clark opens forT20 but bats at 7 in the CC
We definitely will end up 120 short which we would have achieved easily if we had not thrown our wickets away and kept with the pre lunch run rate

I’d shuffle the pack and stick him 6 with Robinson at 7, ridiculous he bats so high.
Right lads get stuck in

Connors trapped Westley lbw early on, it was absolutely plumb. Would’ve hit middle and leg 3/4 of the way up.

They should’ve been 17-2 but instead they appear to have seen off the new ball and we’re now embracing the toil.

I was leaning more towards wanting a Hampshire loss as they have Somerset and Surrey to play compared to Sussex who have Yorkshire and Worcs, but in any event a loss for one of them will be good news for us if we can get a draw here.

He said Stokes will be fit for the Ashes but didn't suggest he would play for Durham this season. He did say Wood is close to playing and could be in contention next week.
