Essex v Durham County Championship 8-11 Sept

Decent effort by the last two but the entire middle order just wasnt good enough. With this bowling attack and 7 batters we had to go big, very big, sadly we havent.
Yeh,the fact that Connors with a batting average in single figures can survive largely untroubled for 10 overs against the new ball is indicative of how flat the pitch is. All credit to him, nevertheless, for showing the application required.
Ackerman,14 failures in his last 17 innings, yet continues to be selected, wafting without any footwork whatsoever today.
Run a ball century for Rhodes for 2nds today.

For me it's been a waste of an opportunity to bat Essex out of the game. For the millionth time this season we've given top order wickets away to rotten shots or mental mistakes.
Yup as per my comments earlier, it feels like it's just 1 of 2 at the top contributing and we then have to rely on Clarky bailing us out which he's doing here basically sticking around. It's not good enough really. Rhodes has been treated awfully in my opinion. Century for him today

Treated awful he's been awful in the county championship
Yes agree his county form a let down can't disagree however as an extra bowling option I feel he should be in the side. Plenty others under performing in the squad who continue to be selected. I'd be interested to see Ackermann's average in the last 8 games or so? Also Bedingham is averaging less than 20 for example. Maybe some are undroppable? I'm still not convinced by Gay, it's all or nothing really. Only Lees and Clark have really shown any sort of consistency with the bat this season . Rhodes is in his best form at the moment (yes I know white ball....) and we took the piss out of him Friday, and I think he's shown today he's capable by scoring well for the 2nds. Just my opinion I think he would be more use with the 1st team at the moment with bat and also ball. An attack of Connors and Bailey worries me especially in a relegation scrap. I've just seen Killeen is playing for the seconds which is ridiculous

I had a fantastic day at the cricket and thought it was honours even, as did the home fans I spoke to. You lot of miserable whingers are going on like we were 150 all out!
I'm on the fence don't know what to think. However I'm standing by my view about just 1 or 2 only ever contributing at the top, that needs to be better. Hopefully we go well tomorrow

I'm sure it was a wonderful day in fine weather for the neutral observers but another middle order collapse for die-hard supporters in a relegation battle should be a concern.
Miserable Whingers so be it.

Rhodes averages 15 he's lucky he hasn't been left out earlier

Again totally understand that viewpoint, impossible to disagree. However in the middle of a scrap, I just think his white ball form surely has to count for something (which he has clearly carried into red ball today) and I honestly believe he would have been a better option than Conners or Bailey.

Just my opinion, but I just hope we win.

So you're happy with a bowling lineup of Potts parky Raine and Rhodes that's even less bowling than we have playing as Rhodes is part time at best

Was a canny little day in Chelmsford.

Friend is a member so she got me a comp ticket in the pavilion – had a nice few drinks and really enjoyed watching the batting in the morning and afternoon. After tea not so much… common consensus amongst the locals is that this will be a draw – especially as it’s forecast to rain all day Wednesday (and most of Thursday)

Was a nice warm sunny day – even ended up getting sunburnt!

I don't see much support in your posts, that's all.

It's a cracking ground and club tbh, big crowd for the CC, knowledgeable supporters with good banter. Glad you had a good day... obviously in the posh seats! I spent the day mostly in the stand by the main scoreboard
