Disney world Florida

Bump.
Going mid October, but want to do something different as well as the parks. Planning on a drive up to St Augustine for the day, maybe a kayak tour in the Everglades, that kind of thing.
Any suggestions?

We are leaving today, been here just shy of two weeks. Did a rough even split of Disney and Universal. Surprised me how much I loved Disney and the Disney hotel we stayed in, were very well looked after. The downer is beginning to set in at the prospect of being back to work and especially the weather gradually only going to get worse, it’s been glorious out here although arguably too hot sometimes. Epcot especially we struggled as there seemed to be very little shade and it’s a massive park with no shortcuts across it due to the lake in the middle.

The big thrill rides are always the ones for me, my highlights in order would be: Stardust at Epic Universe, Velocicoaster at Islands of Adventure and the Hulk at Islands of Adventure. Islands of Adventure even 15-20 years since I was last here still has the crown as the best park imo, Hulk still as good as I remember. Epic was a bit of an anti climax I thought, but maybe we’d built it up in our heads too much. The Super Mario land was the biggest let down, but overall it’s still an impressive park worth visiting.

Been a while since we went but Blue Spring state park was class. Swimming, manatees, alligators, boat tours, canoeing.

Pop Century. Didn’t think I was going to like it as much as I did because it seemed a bit kiddy (to be expected with Disney I suppose) and we don’t have many young kids in the group. Loved it though, really nice homely feel and the staff were great. Whole setup was great, regular and quick bus shuttles to the parks and the Skyline on the doorstep for some parks as well which we loved. Universal has been the second part of the holiday, equally as good and the hotel actually ‘nicer’ but we’ve all missed Disney. Overall a fantastic holiday, not that much rain either and when it has rained it’s generally just lasted a couple of hours before cracking the pavements again. Saw a belting couple of storms in our first few days, excellent viewing.

Ideal. Pop Century looked decent, especially for the kids. We stayed at the next stop up on the skyline (CBR) and called there for food a couple of times.

Sounds like you had a good time.

We did Pop last year. Exactly the same experience as you, loved it.

Skyliner is a massive plus point

We did the same with CBR, called in a few times on the way back from Epcot & HWS. Skyliner is great for connecting those hotels

That's where we're stopping in October so good to hear, just the 4 of us, kids 9 and 4.
We're doing similar with a split between Disney and universal, where did you stop over there?

Nice mate, you’ll all love it. For Universal we stayed in the Dockside Inn Endless Summer. Was a lovely hotel as well, and only 5 min shuttle to the Universal parks. Landed just after 5am this morning and back home now :(.

We went on an airboat tour at Wild Florida which was good fun spotting gators etc only about 30 miles outside of Disney but it’s out in the sticks and there’s also a car safari there.

If youre going in October I’d visit Celebration to see the Halloween decorations and it’s a really nice place for a walk around the lake, few restaurants and a decent boozer (town tavern) and very close to Disney. It’s the town Disney built and quite lovely white picket fences etc.

I quite liked Daytona, the beach and the racetrack tour. They let us walk on the track. You can drive your car onto the beach an arl which I'm sure we did just for the novelty value.

Velocicoaster wins for the best coaster at those parks for me now. Thought it was tremendous

Aye it was brilliant that, a great addition to make IoA even better. Neck and neck between that and Stardust Racers at Epic but I personally lean towards that slightly, but wouldn’t strongly disagree with anyone picking Velocicoaster. Bizarrely the queue times were so low when we were at IoA. Everything except Harry Potter’s Hagrid ride (also class), had waiting times of 30 mins and often very less. Stardust the same tbf, yet some of what I’d class the lesser attractions at some of the Disney parks for example had massive queues at times.

A lot of people don’t like the faster/extreme coasters, so they will usually have lower wait times than a tamer ride.
Personally I think Mako at Seaworld is the best. Pipeline( the standing one) is pretty good as well. I haven’t been to Epic yet.

True, although in the Disney parks the fast and extreme ones like Tron, Guardians of the Galaxy and so on had massive queues. Might be because the Universal leg of the holiday strayed into September? Epic is a good park, had just hoped for more extreme fast rollercoasters but I suppose as you say, they aren’t to everyone’s tastes. The Harry Potter land is impressive. One of the biggest let downs was a few things kept breaking down when we were there, including the Harry Potter one while I was on it - which was disappointing because it was off due to an issue while we were stuck in the queue as well. Ended up just being taken off the rest of the ride and got given a free express pass for any ride of my choice so I used it to do Stardust again. The queues for most things Harry Potter related at any park are mental.

The coasters in Disney aren’t at the extreme end of the scale. Guardians is fast and brilliant, but there’s no big drops or loops. Same for Tron.
I would say Rock & roller, and Everest are more “extreme” than those 2 and they are pretty tame by Universal standards. The most extreme ride Disney ever had was the original Mission Space, they eventually had to dial it back because too many people were ill, and nobody would go on it.

I would disagree about Rock and Roller and Everest being more extreme personally than Tron or Guardians, love all 4 of them though. Guardians was canny intense (in a good way for me) from what I recall, and Tron has the speed and height. Rock and Roller is canny extreme I suppose with its speed and sharp turns.

Rock n Rollercoaster is pretty intense (3 inversions) but it's over in about 40 seconds. Good ride though.
