Patrick Roberts to Birmingham compendium

Well he didn't score if that's what you mean but he did have 2 key passes which could have resulted in a goal had the player he played in converted.

To suggest he's awful is total nonsense. He was one of the bright sparks throughout the game, as was Isidor until he was subbed.
Roberts hasn't really done much of note apart from his Celtic spell when he was in a very dominant team. His best spell here was when he had Amad playing alongside. Jack Clarke did it on his own on the left and he's not Prem quality.

He’s been a great servant and hope he finds another club where he is happy at, and can finish his career there. Unfortunately that isn’t with us in my humble opinion. We need
and have moved on now we are in the premier league,
and if the worst happens and we are relegated his time is up regardless. Assists and goals are fundamental to forward players, unfortunately for all his skill this is never going to happen for him or us. Surely a decent mid table championship club would suit him, and he them. Nothing against him,in fact have enjoyed lots of his skills however it’s time for us and him to part ways.
If we sign another winger as has been rumoured we are looking at, Adringa, Talbi, new addition and Mundle to come back. I don’t dislike Paddy, on the contrary have some fond memories of him, however it’s a performance business. We also have Mayenda who can play there. Appreciate your opinion, mine just differs mate.

You've replied to yourself!

This thread is like a parallel universe.

The only attacker to create anything against 3rd tier opposition is the one who isnt good enough!

Dont focus on what he didnt do, focus on what he did do. He did create proper chances. No one else was good enough to create anything. Our biggest weakness in squad is creativity

Mayenda can't play there mate, he got away with it at times in the Championship, not a chance in the Premier League. Roberts can play a part in the squad. If we bring in someone like Fatawu, fair enough, it's probably then time to move on, but it would be daft to get rid of him at present.

You're skooling the nuggets here.

Most our better play went through him. I thought he was decent in the 2nd half. No coincidence that he looked better as we gave him options. The young lad at RB was getting beyond him and Rigg played close to him. The way we set up has a massive impact on his game. Play with a higher tempo and with options and he’s fine. Play that one paced shite that we often do he looks awful. As will our new wingers without any support or allowing teams to set their block.
This.. I said this last season.. Roberts needs support when he gets the ball. Isolate him on the touch line and he struggles. He’s all about triangles.

Yep said the same. He started last season well. He had Hume going past him, and the option of Rigg inside. We then stopped pressing teams and got less adventous and he was often isolated.

That 2nd half he was regularly setting up team mates in good positions but no one was good enough to finish the move. Probablys our best player attacking wise in 2nd half from what i watched. More concerned with rigg, giui, isidor, le fee. They all created fuck all against 3rd tier opposition
We were an incoherent starting XI playing against a Huddersfield team who had also made a load of changes. Regardless of club standings, this is a massive leveller.

Very few of our team have had any meaningful football.

Regarding Roberts: great attitude, has a trick in him to beat a man and is a pretty good footballer.

He’s one of the most frustrating footballers I’ve seen play for Sunderland. He just doesn’t / cannot make that right decision. Club will let him go if there’s interest this week.

Seems that way. Doesnt change the fsct he was our only crestive outleet vs huddersfield. Le fee should of been dictating that game. Wilson should of been gliding past them with ease. Guiu should of been imposing himself and causing problems. I just didnt see very much from them. Roberts was the bright light 2nd half. Only player to create clear cut chances. I say we could do with that in our 1st team squad.

I don’t think any judgement on any player Roberts included can be drawn from playing against a league 1 second string. To me it seems obvious that there were players in this side who were regulars last season have had their ego dented by now being our second string or shall we say reserves. I can only judge on higher opposition and that being said I can’t remember Roberts lighting up the championship last season, however I do think the argument regards his goals or end product from him takes away the good things he does such as carry the team up the pitch.
