Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

Still surprises me that because we aren't necessarily linked to a centre half, but think nowts happening on getting 1 or 2. Have they not took any notice on how we go about things now?

Last week, journalist reported Sunderland’s move for Bologna’s Jhon Lucumi is on hold.

No reason was provided but similar has been reported by the Italian press, who are now having doubts about a transfer despite the Black Cats having made a significant offer for the defender.

Bologna’s legendary ex-goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca has now offered some hope for Sunderland. He spoke to about Bologna’s transfer business and was asked about their sales, with the club having already lost Dan Ndoye and Sam Beukema.

He said, while also referring to Lucumi’s situation: “For two years, Beukema was the leader of the defence, the man who dictated the pace for the entire department. But in another area of the pitch, I could say the same thing about Ndoye, who, thanks to Italiano, experienced incredible growth last season.”

Speaking specifically about the defender, Pagliuca said: “But that’s exactly how it is. If Sunderland comes along now and offers €30m for Lucumi, what do you do? You don’t sell him?”

So far, the Wearside club have only offered €25m, having had a bid rejected last month.

Bologna’s asking price was put at €28m and no potential suitors met that valuation. Lucumi’s contract at the Rossoblu runs until the summer of 2027.

The 27-year-old has rejected a contract extension at Bologna so far and his agent has travelled to Spain to seek offers from La Liga. That attempt hasn’t led to anything.

Everything will depend on how much Bologna can settle for but as Pagliuca points out, €30m should be enough to seal the deal for Regis Le Bris’ side.

Looks like we'll sign him after these quotes.

If I was doing the negotiations… I’d think a 27 year old that hasn’t exactly set the world on fire (hence no other bidders so far), is not worth 30m euros, apparently he’s not that great with aerial challenges. Knowing nowt about stats, even I can figure aerial challenges are important for cbs. There’s likely to be next to nothing sale value if this fella tanks the prem or even if he’s okay but part of a relegation team aged 28. That’s just my layman’s view. 25 worth a punt 30 I am out ( euros).
