Robin Roefs 🇳🇱 Signed!

For any stato-s I'd be interested to know to what degree 'allowing rebounds back into dangerous areas' is taken into account in the data. Just instinctively after couple of minute of watching Petrovic it's clear he's an insanely good shot-stopper but that I didn't really want him here (no offence to the lad). Opposite feeling with Roef, it just looks obvious, clear as day, safer.
So aye, to what degree is that accounted for by OPTA or whoever it is now?
I don't think I've ever seen that stat recorded, at least in public data. I would expect to see something reflecting it in club's data though

Two optins might be: Saves that land within the 6 yard box; saves made within 2 seconds

If you see a lot of those they're probably parrying it poorly

It's not legal in Australia, or in the UK where most of the people on here are based.

The issue is, most people on that thread would be unable to have it 'administered by a professional' because, again, it's very likely to be illegal where they are. Someone else posted some information suggesting that it doesn't react well with a myriad of other drugs. So if people were to try to do any form of self-administration, it could have really awful consequences.

Suggesting it on a serious thread about depression is either cloth-headed - if you didn't really think about what you were doing, or reprehensible - if you did. I'm sorry for calling you reprehensible and cloth-headed. You're probably one or the other, rather than both.

Anyway, I like the look of the new goalkeeper. He seems to get down well for a big lad, seems very athletic, and looks quick to get back up after a save. Good to hear that he's apparently quite commanding, too.

Regarding Australia, I should have elaborated. . I travelled to have the treatment administered.

I suggested it on the thread, as it is a real, now respected and effective way of treating mental health issues. It was the only thing that got me out of a REAL dark space 3 years ago. It got me off the drink, too, without any intention for some reason. I guess it is used to treat addictions in some people.

I hope you are right, mate. I am feeling optimistic about this season, but a bit uncomfortable with the amount of money we are spending. Maybe it's the PTSD with Short. 😂😂

The WMS podcast had a Dutch reporter on, and he reckons this lad will be back up for us.
He’ll be first choice

Around Sunderland, the expectation is that Robin Roefs will come in as the first goalkeeper. Anthony Patterson was the first-choice last season but is now injured and will likely miss the start of the season. #safc #necnijmegen

As a side note, Dutch is a lovely language to try to understand if you speak German.

I think had Patterson not been injured, then with Roefs being so young you could have said they were competing for the place, Roefs probably would still have been first choice, but they may even have started with Patterson to begin with and introduced Roefs more gradually.

That would be different to a Petrovic or Bulka who would definitely have both walked straight in without Patterson really having a chance.

With Patterson being injured anyway though then Roefs will start and it will be his place to lose.

As things stand, my uneducated guess would be:
  • First 2-3 keepers turned us down. They were all touted at +€20m
  • We probably have c. €70m left to spend
  • Spending €10m gives us an insurance policy if Patto isn’t good enough / lets this chap have a go being #1
  • Leaves us c. €60m left for 1/2 centre backs and/or a striker
Let’s not forget the Dutch league is pretty poor, Afonso Alves, Jozy Altitorde, Daly Blint etc. etc.
There’s plenty more brilliant players you can reel off tho tbf

When did Altidore play in the Dutch league? And Alfonso Alves?

Oh wait, 2013 for altidore and 2008 for Alves.

And would that be the same Daley Blind who won the Dutch league and Bundesliga? Why yes it would.

Great stuff.
Fair. Still think we need to be careful about putting too much pressure on the lad though.

Get your point and the only reason I see that is because Roefs hasn’t played as much

But every stat blows Patto away like

I can't see us paying up to €13m for a backup keeper. Especially when we have other keepers like Matty Young coming through.

This lad will start. The club don't mind taking risks and gambles with young players.

Most of the comments I have seen from Dutch journalists / supporters are very positive about this lad.

I reckon the potential is there for Roefs to step in and claim his place in the team now rather than sometime down the line.

While totally meaningless when talking about individual players, if you were to ask me the nations who produced the best goalkeepers, the Netherlands would be right up there.
