They've been pretty clear that Leach is the backup spinner. They'll either go back to Leach or go Bethell for Woakes and another seamer.

Jack Leach is the official second spinner but it could be a chance to take a look at someone different ahead of the Ashes.

Dawson is not good enough for this level not enough spin, drift or flight in his bowling. Sadly the spin cupboard is very bare but often Old Trafford has bounce for the spinner.

I think this will be their opportunity to shoehorn Bethell into the side. I hope not, I've no issue with him in as a batter, but his bowling isn't up to it at this level yet (although I suppose the same is true of Bashir).

Personally id go boring and pick Dawson.
