Forthcoming gigs.

Well audiences match bands .
The band have to be hitting 50 ? 20th anniversary, then they want mental crowds? Mmm
I plied my trade in town with original material in the 90s and its a slog . I don't think we have a younguns venue, maybe independent, I suppose we play to our market . You'd need young blood in the venue making and shaping decisions .
We have older loyal live punters who she sort of had a pop at tonight and I didn't like it
You're absolutely spot on about a venue that gives young local bands a place to play.

In Southampton we have The Joiners that does that, a platform for bands.

The most recent that I know are Creeper, I worked with a couple of lads from the band before they went touring, decent humble fellas.

Well this all sounds very disappointing. Imagine having a go at someone who’s paid money to come & see you

She was great at Summer Streets getting the kids in the audience down the front to have a bit dance about.

That is the ploy of all Academy Music Group venues. They have two venues in Manchester, one with two rooms in Liverpool, the City Hall in Newcastle and they never publish the stage times. I bet they get really pissed off when the bands do it themselves.
It's annoying cos the stage times can vary wildly too.

When I saw the reytons there a couple of years ago I was going on my own so just headed in for about 8pm, thinking they'd be on around 9, and they had already started. In hindsight it's cos their Saturday night club night was on later so the band played earlier but this wasn't advertised anywhere, and unless it's just a known thing that I wasn't aware of, I bet loads would have made the same mistake

I knew that cos of the gigs I used to go to at the old Westgate Road Academy, but you’re right like. Even if you knew, you’re still guessing times. Some bands will play longer sets than others.

Her comments weren't just about jumping about. An accusation of being leered at was uncalled for.
Replied before I read post from @JAZZMANB

It got quite uncomfortable and a crowd killer .silent .
Not a good time to have Do men look at bonny lasses on stage debate.
Said he was Leering
Poor bloke

I can’t in my mind imagine how you’d go to watch a front person of a band who you’re supposed to be transfixed on & be leering. Unless he had his cock in his hand, he’s supposed to be staring at her.

That does more damage for the whole feminism argument than good.

I ended up going through what you're thinking for about 2 songs ,just lost the flow
There's only 2 of them ,12 foot apart
Where is he supposed to look ?

Next one for me isn’t a proper gig.

‘77 doing the Jam at the Ryhope Beer Festival.

Stanhope Weekender with the bairns. Queen Coldplay, Take That & Oasis on the Friday & Killers, Kings of Leon, Abba etc on the Saturday. Should be canny actually.

Then the Levellers at the Firestation, then that’s possibly it before we go on our family holiday.

Got ferocious dog when I get back. Wouldn’t mind taking the bairn to Tom Smith but not sure how that’ll be with it being in the back of the FireStation. She’s only 9, so no good if it’s all standing & she can’t see.

Not true.

I don’t know their tactics as I haven’t attended a gig there but I suspect it will be the same. Come to think of it Shepherds Bush Empire doesn’t post stage times either.
These are the bastards that take a percentage of the bands merch sales as well.

That's a canny line up for Stanhope. How did they wangle that?

I’m looking forward the likes of Aviva more than the rest. Hopefully it’s enough to hold the bairn’s interests. I want to drink & listen to music, not parent.

I also hope there’s not fairground rides there

You will know the bloke we are talking about - Chris Trew, who promotes gigs as Prancey Dog. He's been responsible for dozens of great nights for me over the years and always fills the undercard with local bands. At virtually all of those gigs, and the countless others I've seen him at, he takes up pretty much the same spot as he's a keen photographer and posts up loads of great videos on his YouTube channel.

Surprise, surprise, here's one from 3 years ago - same venue, same band, same position! I think that was his 1st visit to Pop Recs, Bug Club were supporting, and he has put on several gigs for them since. I had actually thought last night was one of his.

You must be logged on to see media items

He also set up a record label just to put out Nev Clay's album so I would think Nev was upset by that outburst too.

Even dafter was the fact that the crowd were doing that Pop Recs thing where everybody bunches up at the back, and Holly was wanting people to move forward and jump about a bit. For most of the night, Chris was the only person anywhere near the stage. The big, baldy front man in Super Burner didn't seem to mind being 'leered at'.

Good luck with that. My daughter is 14 now, and I still chew that she is not enjoying herself when we go to gigs together. Cannot totally get into it, for worry about them. It never stops.

This is a real step up by Pop Recs on the comms front and I hope it's the shape of things to come.

As for the gig, I thought it was an absolute triumph for Nev after I must admit, I had been a bit worried for him. The Sunlun rewrites of Cuddy's Cave and Culler Of Coats were f***ing brilliant.

I left early, and I never do that, after what I thought was a badly misjudged tirade by the Lovely Eggs' Holly. I hope I got it wrong because I really like them, but I was too annoyed to stay.
I was close to walking out, thought she went on like a bit of a kernt, and was totally uncalled for. Thats the last time I will go to see them again
She had a bit of a rant and people who stand at the front at gigs seemingly not enjoying the music ie dancing about etc. i get her point in a general sense but she targeted a specific bloke and a very popular one who does shit loads for local music.

She apologised to him after the show but it totally killed the mood which was a shame because they played a terrific set but failed to read the room
She turned it into a David Moyes gig

She was like vinegar tits last night in comparison
