Forthcoming gigs.

Hi there!

We can't wait to welcome you to Pop Recs for tonight's performance by the incredible Lovely Eggs!

If you're driving in, Charles St car park is free after 6pm or there is a multi storey car park situated near the cinema in Sunniside.

If you're looking for a local drink ahead of doors, The Bridge Hotel Vaults is directly opposite Pop Recs and serves the finest Vaux ales in a beautiful traditional pub. Serving til 11.30pm so get yersels over afterwards too :)

Doors for the gig are scheduled for 7pm with the excellent Super Burner onstage at 7.45, the wonderful Nev Clay at 8.45 and The Eggs at 21.30.

See you there \m/

It baffles me that more gig venues don’t do this sort of promotion. Making this effort makes you feel that your custom is appreciated. The tiny effort of publishing stage times makes organising your attendance so much easier.

The likes of the Academy, it feels like they purposefully hide the stage times. It’s like they’re trying to trick you into getting into the venue earlier to drink.

That is the ploy of all Academy Music Group venues. They have two venues in Manchester, one with two rooms in Liverpool, the City Hall in Newcastle and they never publish the stage times. I bet they get really pissed off when the bands do it themselves.

It’s daft amount for the pints as well.

Pop Recs & the Cluny pisses all over venues like that. It’s a shame when bands get big enough for these venues.

This is a real step up by Pop Recs on the comms front and I hope it's the shape of things to come.

As for the gig, I thought it was an absolute triumph for Nev after I must admit, I had been a bit worried for him. The Sunlun rewrites of Cuddy's Cave and Culler Of Coats were f***ing brilliant.

I left early, and I never do that, after what I thought was a badly misjudged tirade by the Lovely Eggs' Holly. I hope I got it wrong because I really like them, but I was too annoyed to stay.

What did she say? She is normally great crack

She had a bit of a rant and people who stand at the front at gigs seemingly not enjoying the music ie dancing about etc. i get her point in a general sense but she targeted a specific bloke and a very popular one who does shit loads for local music.

She apologised to him after the show but it totally killed the mood which was a shame because they played a terrific set but failed to read the room

Agree ,I stayed but wtf ?

It was the same lovely bloke who promotes her f***ing gigs, and has occupied the same spot at pretty much every gig I've seen him at.
I wasn't aware of that but found it very uncomfortable as an older bloke as it unfolded

I agree but have found pop recs a bit meh in the past for socials and last minute pushes . Not mentioning bands that night but pushing custard slices next door. I was a patreon for a while and stopped . Hopefully it's improving

Fingers crossed.

I found it quite depressing for a few reasons, for a "music city" and I'm sure someone said (in this thread maybe) that it was sold out but it looked nowhere near, and id say 90% of the crowd was over 50. I'm not a teenagers myself anymore but it doesn't scream sustainable when venues struggle to attract youngsters

Well audiences match bands .
The band have to be hitting 50 ? 20th anniversary, then they want mental crowds? Mmm
I plied my trade in town with original material in the 90s and its a slog . I don't think we have a younguns venue, maybe independent, I suppose we play to our market . You'd need young blood in the venue making and shaping decisions .
We have older loyal live punters who she sort of had a pop at tonight and I didn't like it

Nev was absolutely class, spoke with him after the set and thanked him for finally coming to visit. Top bloke, funny as fook!

I'm not familiar with the chap that Holly had a pop at, I'm always stood right at the back, but what she did wasn't right. David didn't want to get involved.
