Bit late now but Shonen Knife were due on at 3.30pm (supports were due on at 1.30pm and 2.30pm). It sold out and the promoter posted the stage times. Follow/Like Hapless Museum Worker.

They played a mid set selection from their latest record which is a celebration of Dennis Hopper, including a video of the album opener sung by Steve Earle. Because it was themed, complete with film clips and other visuals, having all the new songs together saw the atmosphere dip and the talking levels rise. A couple of good songs but a bit lost on quite a lot of people wondering who Dennis Hopper was. I'd sooner bands keep trying new songs though, it keeps them interested and interesting.

Newer arrangements of songs with fiddles and mandolins being replaced by the Hammond B3 of 'Brother' Paul Brown works fine. The Whole of the Moon, saw half the hall get their phones out to film. Ended with a high octane Fisherman's Blues.

Thegig couldn't match 1985 which is one of the best gigs I have seen, but great to see them again.

Saw the Waterboys do a first half acoustic set then electric after the break.
It was spot on.

Was spot on. All 3 bands were good, I used to play a bit Shonen Knife track in me DJ sets back in the early nineties so was great to see them live after all these years.

Matinee has the added bonus that I stopped out and saw Get A Grip playing their Stranglers covers set later on as well 😎

I like what I've heard from The Cords which is only a handful of songs. Hope to catch them at some point. Know they support The Primitives in Newcastle on 1st August.
I played Shonen Knife quite a bit in the early to mid 90s. Remember buying a couple of promo CDs from Volume Records in Sunderland. It's worth listening to the Japanese band Otoboke Beaver if you haven't already. Their shows also look a lot of fun.
