Chris Mepham

It is often the case with a new player, especially if he arrived highly recommended. Af first, the positives are accentuated and any shortfalls conveniently overlooked. Having said that, Mepham did look good - but at the time, I wouldn't have swopped a fit Alese for him. Le Fee couldn't put a foot wrong when he first appeared - the consensus was that he could only get better after the benefit of a few more games under his belt - and of course when the manager plays him in his best position.
The value to the team for example of Neil, O9 and Hume ,cannot be overlooked. Those lads have done the hard yards, are not perfect but will be around for some time yet. Others may not be.

They were saying on the TV that the goal scorer was Jobes man but he let him get away from him.
Yeah. Where he was running into the box it should have been Jobe or maybe Neil covering. It’s always easy for some to blame O9 though.

When Hume was sent off against Bristol O9 should have been the cover. He was the cover this time but the midfield were ball watching.

I would start with Mepham and O9 and make sure we defend as a team.

When have you ever seen Jobe chase back and put a tackle in?

His whole game seems to be receive the ball in midfield and either feint forward and turn backwards and pass to the centre halves.

Pass to the wing.

Slows the attack, cannot break quickly.

Cannot get box to box.

But he’s still a kid, probably needs a decent coach to give him a kick up the arse ( not Dodds).

Did he really look that imperious though or were the full side playing well? He’s not this amazing centre half people make out.

This is a fair comment.
The more time we are playing in the opposition half the less ball they have.
You could argue Patterson and Cirkin dipped in form.

His performance in the first half New Year’s Day at Blackburn was absolutely baffling. Most thought he’d been on the piss but we were under slot of pressure.
He’s just an average championship defender who had an unbelievable fist couple of months due to is being sharp and aggressive playing a high press.

O’Nein was at fault for the goal. He ran out to back Cirkin up when he didn’t need it and left an ocean of space in our box for their goal scorer.

I wouldn’t be against resting him and playing Ballard and Mepham tbh
09 is crap like canny lad but a total liability

Any news on whether we’re gonna attempt to bring this lad back on a perm?

Think the only thing that will stop it happening is wages. Supposedly on £65k a week at Bournemouth, they’ve just sold someone to Madrid for €50m so will have their eyes on better than Mepham.

CM has said he wants to stay, so it’ll come down to wages/whether he can get better elsewhere.

No way we should be paying that for someone who lost their place to Luke O’Nien.

We need to find someone who will compliment Ballard.

Good post. Agree fully with what you say.

It is and we surely wont pay that.

Not for me, been great for us but don't think he's that good and certainly not for the Prem.

We need one signing to partner Ballard, and I would then say O'Nien would be ahead of Mepham from a back up perspective. 65K on arguably a fourth choice centre half for us isn't good business.
