Nissan

No chance NMUK closes. No chance . Will be government bailouts till market realigns.
While I certainly don't want it to happen, it is a real possibility that Nissan worldwide could completely fold with a $10 billion debt.

The advantage Europe and Japan had in ICE over China has been sacrificed for a new EV race where we didn't get a 50 year head start, these 'Chinese partners' could be great news for Sunderland long term.

Great bunch of lads iirc.

That's a funny looking 50 years.😆

Leaf was full electric,Fluence was available in ICE + full EV.
To be fair we had fully electric vehicles when I was a lad. milk floats didn’t go very fast or have a great range and still took about 18 hours to charge. Ok they weren’t a patch on today’s vehicles.

Last time I was in Paris we went to the Musée D'Orsay.
Was fascinating reading how when it was built it was designed for electric trains. This was in 1898.

Well lets see what happens and if Mr Johnson was right or not.... 🤔

One thing is certain, NMUK will NOT close, that's for sure...

Also 20,000 staff being removed worldwide x £50,000 Redundancy / Recap / whatever you want to call it = £1 BILLION pounds...

Which I am pretty sure will be about £1 Billion more than Nissan will currently have down the back of the sofa in spare change, especially to just hand out willy nilly to random people at plants that are remaining open...

Fair enough, the 7 plants that are closing, then ALL the workers there will have to be fairly compensated and rightly so...

Any other layoffs at other plants will be interesting to see how they are managed...

Current staff turnover at NMUK dictates they do not NEED to offer ANYTHING to get rid of any people they may or may not need to lose...

Hopefully they do offer a Recap package at NMUK of some sort, but maybe only for 25 years plus to get the higher earners that are left out...

Madness giving money to people who have only been there 10 years, one of my lads a few years back had been there 10 years and 8 days and got £30000 Recap - great for him - bat sh*t crazy from a management view...

Anyway lets see what happens the rest of the year, but hopefully everyone's jobs at NMUK are safe, which is the ONLY thing that really matters to everyone working there and the North East's economy in general...👍

Not all regions get the same redundancy packages as uk.

talking to 2 flt drivers this morning who say the plant shuts down on friday for a week.
Then when they come back they are ramping up production on line 2..who s buying the cars?

Hopefully Nissan is in Sunderland for the long term future of the region. God forbid where it would be if the tax payer hadn’t subsidised it over the years? I am not knocking the subsidises as there would be mass unemployment locally due to having workers with very little transferable skills and no factory work to cover.

are they doing roadworks next to the nissan factory ? past few week been shit load more traffic on the A1231 , going from washington towards wessington way, lad at work said it was due to new roads being built which meant lot more nissan staff and surrounding suppliers were having to now use the A1231 to get onto the A19

They're making it dual carriageway past Nissan

The weeks shut down was decided last year before they dropped line one down to 1 shift. The volumes for the factory as a whole are still very low compared to when it was full steam ahead.
