In all honesty I think it’s highly unlikely that anyone apart from those in very senior leadership know the future and even that is probably still in decision phase which they reevaluate all Global manufacturing.

Unfortunately although the UK has good employment law in comparison to the US. It’s far harder to get rid of people in Japan, Europe and South America then it is here which sometimes impacts the UK in issues of downturn.

Sunderland may have the edge over other plants in other countries but if it goes tits up overall for Nissan that won't save them. Would be absolutely devastating for our town so here's hoping it never comes to that.

I know someone who joined last year and they’re on £38k now. They couldn’t be happier as they left school without doing GCSEs yet they’re earning the same money as their cousin who got a 1st at the LSE. Everytime he sees his cousin he withdraws £500 in tenners and chucks his fun coupons round. He says it’s hard work though and a few of the older lot just complain all the time. Also says part of the factory is haunted?

Man staff starting wage is £31.5k no way he's on £38k after 1 year. Takes years now to get to top of your band and that's only if you get good appraisals which you don't.

I’ll check with him but sure he said 38k as he told me about that being the same wage as his cousin. He was earning 18k not so long ago so he can’t believe his luck. Talking about upgrading his old Renault Megane.
