Elland road upgrade

The narrative is Leeds have shit support and Sunderland are the attendance champions of the world.

You can't get anymore in the ground than the current capacity allows, and it has been this way for a number of seasons now.

There is also 26000 on the season ticket waiting list, the club has been held back for years regarding ground updates, a long list of dodgy owners put paid to that.

The FA cup third round for example was a sell out, what was your attendance again?
Oh it is @Peace

I don't know, nor care?

You've made up the first sentence btw.

You got some kind of chip on your shoulder?

Why haven't Leeds ever averaged over 40k in their history?

Why aren’t they redeveloping that other stand behind the goal?
There's nothing substantial they can do with the south stand as Elland Road runs directly up to it.

There's plenty of land behind the other stands to exploit.

They are going to upgrade it (whatever that means) but yeah, its a sticking point.

Talking of narratives here we go..........

In modern history the ground capacity hasn't exceeded 40000 is probably why (currently 37500) it held briefly 40000 before Ken Bates put his executive boxes in, but then you're subject to away attendance.

Prior to Don Revies era, Leeds was not a footballing heartland, nor were many towns along the M62 corridor.

Why didn't Sunderland achieve an average home attendance of above 20000 through the decades of the 80s and 90s?

Edit to say - it also seems your current attendances are skewed too, lots of people not turning up it seems, and issues with adults buying kids season tickets, then not being arsed to turn up as it didn't cost them much anyway.
The play off attendance will be interesting when people have to pay full whack - but even then it should be a sell out for such an important game.

It seems you have an unhealthy obsession up there with attendances holding up to your neighbours levels, local pride - I get it.

Leeds, one of the biggest cities in the country (and probably the biggest with only one team) couldn't average 40k once, even during Don Revie's era of success.

Huge now though. As for our attendances in the 80s and early 90s: we were crap and football crowds were down across the board.

Your last statement is incorrect as we averaged way over 20k by the late 90s.

It was a completely different time, but again...... how are you supposed to average higher than your ground capacity allows????

So your crowds were down because you were "crap"?

Isn't that the definition of fickle?
