Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

A well-to-do Northsider offering the hand of friendship to a poor downtrodden Southsider.
I remember some early suggestions for bids on the opening of the Northern Spire and the people of Pallion/Southwick/Castletown meeting in the middle was one of them.
I was pretty disappointed with what they did in the end.
Although the day when you could walk over it freely with no traffic was great.

Railings deffo started going up on the Sheepfolds side.

About 5ft high. If you jump over them you'll gan straight in the river or on the banks. There's nee parapet to sit on til someone comes and talks you out of it.
Hopefully they've accounted for the extra weight of all the padlocks.

Seriously I hope the council have the nous to snip them off as fast as they go up and weigh them in for scrap. Give the money to a deserving charity.

Have we enough time to find one?

I'll volunteer. I'll ride me bike down Fulwell Road anarl. ;)

It’s epidemic in some places. And as La Siene has nowt on the Wear, the new bridge is a prime target.

I think they had to take them off one cos the bridge was being structurally undermined by the weight of the locks.

Ive got one on there somewhere off 15 years ago
Summer 2025 was the estimate, think it might be a little bit later than that.
What makes you think that? looks to be well on track and its all getting pushed to be completed by 22nd August for the rugby world cup
