Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Really odd transfer to me this one. He’s come in and played okay, shown some glimpses of quality but only a handful of minutes. Surely will be put in Brightons development side or loaned out. It’s still a big ‘if’ but we could go up still so it baffles me why the urgency to get out when we could offer a comparable deal surely ‘if’ we were to go up. Something off with it all as there’s been rumours of him wanting to leave last windows. Hard to know if it is player driven or something about the way the club is operating though.

A few observations.

1 - the timing of this stinks and something about it doesn’t sit right.

2 - disappointed with the lad but if he wants a big pay cheque then so be it. Many of us would make the same choice.

3 - we should only play him now if it’s absolutely necessary. No way should he start any game ahead of an in contract player that needs minutes (e.g Aleksic).

4 - Ian Harte is a C**t

5 - Brighton are a well managed club but it still hurts to sell to a club like that. We’ll come again though. Our time will come.
Agree he shouldn't play, not because he isn't good enough but his head wont be in it IMHO. Stick him in the stiffs....

For all those posters saying we won’t sell more than 1 or 2 integral squad players this summer if we don’t go up, well there’s 1 already gone and we don’t even know yet ;)

Unless they’re now not going to count him as technically it’s not the summer ;)

This summer always had the potential to be a bigger turnaround due to 3 players contracts running down (3 Stewart/Clarke scenarios at once) plus the international interest in Rigg & Jobe. There’ll be others on prem radars too. Although with decent times on contracts we’ve done well at holding onto those. Could be a LOT of interest in our players this summer though if we don’t go up

Let’s see, but always felt believing we’d only lose 1 or 2 of them before September was naive

I wouldn't call Watson integral.

Didn't take long
See above.

He will have people advising him to move and will have had his head turned by more lucrative offers. We have our model, but we simply don't pay very big wages compared to other teams -- compared to teams in this league, never mind at the top end of the Prem. And we probably got nowhere near in terms of wages to whatever Brighton are putting down for him.
I would suggest the same is about to happen with Dan Neil, as his contract is running down and there is no sign of it being sorted. If we don't go up, I don't think we'll meet his demands.

I think you’re most probably right, but it’s not really what anyone wants to hear. With Watson it’s a gamble for Brighton but one they can take. Losing Dan Neil would be a much bigger blow for us.

They're 15th in the wages list and their weekly wage bill is less than half of what you said.
Estimates of course, and I've seen £57m to £66m PA as their wage bill , still way less than the £156m you state.

I mean their official accounts say otherwise but what would they know eh, I’m gonna take givemesport.coms word on it

If the manager thinks Tommy Watson can help us get promotion then I'm happy for him to contribute in anyway he can.

If Mundle gets injured again he would play likely play a fairly major part in our end of the season.

The club comes before any player. I wouldn't be cutting our noses off to spite our face.

Tommy Watson has the potential to be better than Jack Clarke. He has similar ability and a lot more pace. However, we'll have to wait to see how his career pans out.

Never been that impressed by Watson. Don't know what all the fuss is about.

The reason we didn't sell him in January is because there wasn't time to reinvest and people would have moaned had we done it.
Selling him now has done no difference 😂 if as many believe he was never going to sign a new deal it seems silly to have dragged it out and sold him now when we now have a player with massive question marks over, fans questioning him and his willingness to give his all and he’s barely kicked a ball since that window shut anyway. Just strange all around.
