Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

This is all working out pretty well. Even if he runs his contract down we'll get compo and we know now that his valuation is £13m

Harte must be bricking it

I wonder where this leaves Watson though. Will he accept this and get his head down in the short term? Or will he spit his dummy out?

Difficult situation for any player never mind an 18 year old lad. It might be a blessing in disguise that he isn’t due back from injury for a month anyway. Allows time for the dust to settle before he’s back on the pitch.

We need to throw a new contract at him now though. You’d think we’d have accepted the money if we know there’s no chance of him signing, so here’s hoping

He travelled, so he accepted or wanted to go. What are we left with? A player who doesn't want to be here, worth a lot less in thr summer.

Is that how compensation for academy graduates work? (Genuine question)

So because we've rejected bids for £13 million that's what we'll get if he runs his contract down?

We will need to reflect his market value in the contract we offer him, that's only fair

It won’t be nothing. We will be due a substantial compensation fee set by a tribunal as he’s under a certain age.
Be no where near 8 million be amazed if passes a million - only get paid a development fee

"various factors are generally included in the assessment of whether a player´s training period must be deemed to have been completed before the age of 21, including the level of talent of the player, whether or not the player is playing regularly with the first team and the value of the player, e.g. reflected in a loan fee achieved for the services of the player."

he only played 430 minutes - so that will keep the fee well down
