Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

I’m really gutted about this, was really excited about how this lad would develop for his home town club he’s looked a real prospect.
I can only assume the lad under the guidance of his agent has pushed for this at the end of the day he’s the only person who could stop this move.

Teams like Liverpool can afford to keep their young prospects because they can afford to pay them good wages whilst sending them out on loan.

Watson will still be on u21s money. Probably a few grand a week.
He is 18, he has loads of time to make the top dollar. He has just started, everybody wants everything now. It’s all greed. He needs to learn to play football with men first.

I’d be surprised if it’s even that currently. I’d imagine he’s probably been offered about 4 or 5k to stay with the promise of better terms when he’s a first team regular . Not a chance it makes sense to make him one of the highest earners here after 4or 5 games. What sort of message would that send to the other young lads who grafted to get where they are?

Barring injuries he would have 2 appearances max off the bench.

He has talent and could develop into a Premier League capable winger.

He should be over the moon with how this season as gone for him as a 18 year old. If he wants to leave a first team environment to go back to an U23 set up at a Premier League club then that’s his choice.

If he doesn’t see himself getting game time ahead of Mundle does he see himself getting in front of Mitoma?

Good luck to the lad but can’t help feeling he’s listening to the wrong people.

All that being said, if i was the man in charge id be tempted to let him rot in the under 21s for the next 18 months.
Why ? Shunning good money just because you don’t like that a player has chosen to leave. It’s a great deal and handled well by the club imo. We aren’t going to be messed about by an 18 year old kid from Horden who played 5 games ffs
Was really looking forward to Tommy starting again but if he goes goodluck.
Big day for him and his family so hope it works out.
Me too but at the same time it’s all about what we do with the funds now.

Watson would have been sitting on the bench behind mundle and rightly so ….get a good load of cash invest and
Move on …. !!!!

He needs to become financially secure.
Sure, that could happen eventually if he stays. But what happens if he gets a serious injury? Look at Ross Stewart. If he can get money that sets him up for life then he should be taking it.

Is it right to sell him , is it not ?
Perhaps its this way , the club needs cash to push for promotion, KLD doesnt have it in his arse pocket . We need money for quality loan wages from big clubs ( and maybe another player yet) as thats how we think we'll finish strongest without punting our balls on it .
The only viable option is a sale so who do we sell , the kids doing the business in midfield who have massive financial potential? Ballard , Cirkin when we're already short at the back ? Patto ? or the back up left winger .

Some people describing him as 'squad filler' honestly speaking. He's a tremendous player and I know all of the posters on here that have followed him through the levels will know we are losing a fantastic young player if indeed he goes. He just has tons of final product and thats what team want. For those that point out hes only played a handful of games wellt aht is only down to being 18 and also being injured. Hes tremendous. I realise that there are allsorts of moving parts when a player leaves, length of contract and whether we are already strong in those areas but for me seeing lads coming through the ranks, playing for Sunderland and performing at a high level is one of the biggest positives of watching us. I hope he stays.
