Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Watson I know you are reading this, I would be in your shoes. Let me impart some wisdom on you...

In 70 years you do not want to be sitting on the balcony of your villa full of regret. Sure you are financially sorted, but money means nothing once you have it, you quickly get used to it and it's just normal. What really matters is what you've done with your life, did you reach your full potential? Or were you just a middling player who nobody really remembers, because you prioritised money over what's best for your development.

You can be a legend here, stick around and help get us promoted, then get your big contract. There is nowhere better in terms of game time and adoration. You could have your own statue outside the sol.

To Brighton fans you are just another piece of meat, they'll expect the world from you and won't be patient. With us you are like a son, we want you to do well as much as you do.

Don't follow the money and material things, it is an empty and hollow way of life.
Couldn’t even finish reading that with second hand embarrassment. Watson wanted to leave and is leaving. The way some are going on you’d think he was leaving Man City for Saudi or something. We are a good club but not half the club some people would have you think. FWIW players who choose their boyhood club over steps up in their career are very few and far between

Not necessarily true if he plays a blinder for the rest of the season. Theres plenty of interest in him to start a bidding war. Mind you he could down tools too.
He's injured with no comeback date, so obviously not yet match fit, he's behind Mundle in the pecking order, will get limited game time, and we have no idea whether he'll produce when he does get back on the pitch. All in all, an 8 figure transfer fee and a potential replacement with PL experience on loan sounds like an absolutely cracking deal to me.

I've avoided this thread up to now cos I thought it was a lot of posters inexplicably losing their shit but now I see it's almost a done deal.
A few things about this deal that I can't get me head around. Why are we even entertaining selling a home-grown player - a Sunderland fan no less - that's just broken through to the first team and has a handful of appearances? If his current contract's up summer '26 then I doubt we'll be any worse off if we had to do a deal this summer if we can't agree an extension.
Well because he’s injured anyway and won’t play until at the earliest March and the offer is here and now and funding other players who the club are hoping will guide us to promotion. After being slated early doors it seems my assumption is correct lad from one of the most depressing and deprived towns in Europe deciding that the money here and now guaranteed is too good for him to risk turning down

They are just after a profit mate, that is the only way they can survive. They are not a big club. They were in the fa cup final in 1983. That’s it isn’t it?
Isn’t that the exact same thing we have had drummed into us for the last three year?

Buy cheap and sell for profit otherwise it’s lights out as we make big losses?

Arrogant as fuck people like you

 FFS.

Proper gutted like but its not the end of the world. Is it £12m? Thats a canny chunk for someone whos played 5 games and is our 2nd choice LW, especially if we can invest it in a striker.

I dont really blame him either, its not like hes going to a Chelsea or a Man City. Brighton are a well run club, he will get game time in the Prem and a chunky pay rise.

Its shite but hopefully we make the most of it.

All that being said, if i was the man in charge id be tempted to let him rot in the under 21s for the next 18 months.

Just because it is drummed into us doesn’t mean I have to believe it is the only way.

lets be honest here..he is a prospect, not the finished article

hes had 1 really good game for us at this level

take the money and use it to develop players who want to be on the books here
Don’t talk sense on here. Some people can’t grasp that for some people money and a step up to the premier league are preferable to learning your trade at a local club. That’s his decision and we’ve got an incredible deal for someone who has played less than 10 games

This idea of Brighton being one of the best run clubs is total twaddle.

They'd go bankrupt tomorrow if it wasn't for Tony Bloom pumping so much money in. They are very fortunate they have been successful in buying and selling players otherwise they would have gone pop a while back.
Kind of true but they made over 100m profit in their last accounts
