Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

People really do expect ridiculous fees based on very little so far.
Probably because clubs keep paying ridiculous fees based on very little... We are seeing players going for tens of millions who have barely kicked a ball at senior level. You have to speculate to accumulate.

We are but usually by clubs that are helping each other out for ffp. I just mean I don't think a club is going to offer 10mil + for him as people seen to think they should. If he's happy and wants to stay, he will stay

If we get an acceptable offer he’ll be gone!

He has opportunity to go to premier league and probably quadruple his wage.

The sentimental bollocks on here from grown men talking about how this his home town club, will want to get us to premier league etc is embarrassing.
Depends on how you look at it. I'm a Sunderland fan and if that was me I'd stay and want to make it here. Others chase the coin. It's not embarrassing to say what I would do in the same situation. You might do different and so might he but what's embarrassing about having some pride and wanting to be club legend?

Did you never play football every day as a kid dreaming of playing for us? I did . Perhaps it is me that's daft, but he will get more 1st team chances with us than there even if you take sentiment out of the equation.

People still think Clarke made a mistake joining a Premier League club man. No reasoning with some of them.
You are basing everything on money . Stewart and Clarke left and football wise they are in a worse situation I would say. They have made money so it depends on what they wanted

Clarke literally left to play in the premier league. Yes he got a pay rise but he would’ve been mad to pass up on the opportunity, who knows when it would come along again.

I don’t believe you would.

This is his career, his job, his livelihood, he’s no longer a supporter he’s an employee.

The fact his contract is down to 18 months is also a bit of a giveaway he’s not planning on letting grass grow under his feet.

How is stewart in a worse situation?

Be injured at Sunderland on less money or injured at Southampton on more money!!

Tough one that mind.

The amount of dopes willing to sell off one of our best young talents for Nout baffles me

Been at the club since he was 6, gonna be a star
Wether you want to sell or keep him is irrelevant, that decision lies with the club.

If he’s down to 18 months and right offer comes in it will be accepted.

The lad ye talking to wore a mag top for next to nowt man. Nee scruples.

18 months contract left, of course we don't have to and I don't think we will sell. But he has had a handful of games in the championship, is currently injured. Minteh had two full seasons behind him including a good loan at feyenoord and a longer term contract still. I don't think we will sell but expecting more than we got for Clarke after two outstanding seasons, when the lad has 430min game time in the championship is ridiculous
18months on his contract means we don’t have to sell yet. Not having to sell yet means you have to pay above market rate as we don’t want to sell.

Look at the price Wharton went to palace for then. He should be fetching more than Clarke

I've watched him right through the youths, he's up there with the best I've seen for us. I think he's the complete package, has all the attributes. I'd love to see us hold onto him for a couple of seasons, I think he'll turn into the best player we've ever produced.

He moved to Spurs who were premier league and apparently wasn't happy. I have no idea. Only he knows that. The clubs linked were Burnley and Ipswich the season after. I'd have pushed for the move to Lazio for the experience if I was him if i really wanted to leave but he won't be appreciated as much as he was with us and the fans of Ipswich are not too happy with him. Good luck to him and Stewart for making their money but is happier?

Yes but my point is that noone will pay the fees people are thinking. I don't think he will be sold. But if the player happened to say I'd like to go or I'm not signing another contract (hypothetical) there's no way it would be north of 10mil and we wouldn't want to lose value by letting him see his contract out
