Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Would have to be a big fee for us to even entertain this even with 18 months left on his contract, he is one of our top young prospects. Brighton are an established top half premier league club would help him develop more, a big fee and sell on clause then would deal, although I would want to keep him but it's up to the lad and the club. Hate to say it but it is part of our model but we would have to replace him 100% with another left winger.

The issue the club has is he only has 18 months left on his contract.
I think if we were sat in 12th place with not a lot to play for this would be a much more valid point than it actually is.

If we want to get promoted this season, Watson plays an important part in that happening.

And that really should be the end of discussion.

I’m hoping the club are playing this canny, are happy for the interest to be public knowledge and then court favour when they turn it down. A feel good factor of sorts to temper an otherwise frustrating transfer window!

He's only had a few appearances in the first time.

Got to be honest, it's shite from Watson, we've invested the time and money into developing him, he's not signed a new contract and has jumped at the first opportunity.
But he hasn't has he

Yeah I agree. Unless the player has absolutely decided he's off, and them it's about getting the best deal possible.

But in our situation, getting 5-9m for Watson isn't going to do much for us right now. We're in a promotion race, and he'll be worth more money in the summer (despite his contract) if he plays a starring role in getting us promoted. If we get promoted he may well stay anyway.

Unless he's absolutely determined to go (or the offer is something truly ridiculous), it would be a hard no from me.

The delusion on here is staggering
We're clearly a club on the up so to lose one of our biggest talents in years i'd imagine wouldn't be on anyones wish list. Plus the fact he's a local sundeland fan, it makes complete sense to say its a privilege, 99.5% on this board would give their left nut to have played for us.

I think thats what you say to him, help us get promoted and we will re-assess in the summer.
