Which teams apart from Leeds? Burnley have Shelvey and Barnes. Sheff Utd have Brooks and One.

No goals when he was 17/18. He then stayed at Arsenal another 5 years and never played a single game!

He was basically highly rated, playing decent level on loan but never did anything much until he was about 26. I can't really think of another player like him?

Most either push on earlier or fall far further down the leagues.

Surely what he did at Middlesbrough is more relevant than where he was at 17/18 ?

The whole point I was making is Akpom isn't a late bloomer as such. He was on Arsenal's books for years and played for England at pretty much every age level. He just didn't push on despite being a professional until he was 27.

It’s not what you said Keith, you said Vardy was doing it in his early 20’s. No he wasn’t, he didn’t leave the conference until he was 25.

Boro signed him, he scored in the championship at 24, went back on loan to where they got him from, came back and had a cracking season. Went to Ajax.

What I said exactly is he (and Ian Wright) were pulling up trees as professionals in their early 20's. Jamie Vardy scored 20 odd goals in the conference (Fleetwood finished top) when he was 24 (25 in January) which got him a move to the Championship.

Akpom went back on loan to POAK because he was shit in his first season at Boro at 25. He scored 5 goals in 30 odd games.

He then came back to Boro at 27 and had the season of his life pretty much out of the blue.

No doubt it’s always a bit of a gamble , personally I’d rather get Akpom on loan than spend megabucks on Cannon and Brereton Diaz ( the latter has been useless this season)

Plus if we get Akpom on loan the money could be used to complete Isador and Mepham deals.
 
Relatively strong and pacey. Might feel comfortable coming back to the league and England generally as well. If it gives us another solid option upfront who can come in and make an impact then great. Promotion is the goal.
