There are times when he has been standing straight in the past couple of months, and his belly is nowhere near as flat as in this photo. It probably isn't that problematic as a keeper though.
That is him. It’s not photoshopped or owt. He’s in great shape. It’s one of those things that someone has said and sheep have leapt onto.

Only an absolute fckwit would think selling him for 5 million was a good deal.
Got to be profitable after signing a replacement who is better and will therefore command a bigger wage. Needs to be around 10million

I’d invest in a psychologist to ask him why he’s seemingly scared to come off his line, and then hypnotise him and tell him he’s a f***ing treble hard bastard triggered by a whistle.

Good shot stopper but his kicks/distribution is lacking. hopefully they are focusing on that in training.

I get that, I am not saying his weight is an issue. But different angles tell different stories and he has looked less lean than he does in that photo at times when watching games live.
Not at fault for either goal. Both were lucky bounces and free digs in the 6 yard box but not the greatest positioning from our centre halves
No way he was saving either today. Some of the tap ins lately have just fallen nicely, others muffed clearances, others just falling wrong for defenders to be first to the ball.

Exactly mate. Look at their keeper palming it back into danger just after they’d equalised and Cirkin was an inch away from it landing perfectly in his bonce

I don't even see that. When they're passing about at the back, he's fine most of the time.

Every now and again someone will give him a bit of a dodgy backpass and he struggles with his long kicking and it ends up going out of play. I don't see it as too much of a problem.

I find this quite interesting. Are you surprised that most people think his kicking is awful but you think it's fine ? Do you think all these other people are mistaken ? Do you think it's possible that you may be blind to his mistakes ? I'm not trying to patronize or anything I was just wondering if that could be the case.

Here is my theory. All fans have their own idea of what they expect from the team and individual players. At one end of the spectrum you have the fan that will accept any old crap that they are given and love all the players regardless. At the other end you get the people with high expectations, who don't accept 100% effort as good enough, they also need to be good, effective players that make few mistakes and regularly make signifigant contribution. I'm not at the extreme end, but nearer the latter. Somebody at this end will notice a couple of mistakes by a player and it will niggle them slightly, but it will also make them watch that player like a hawk and will therefore notice all future mistakes and get increasingly more annoyed with that player. They will then be on the radar for subsequent matches, stressing out people like me, to the point that we might start calling them useless, rather unreasonably, even for the smallest of mistakes (Mistakes that we would allow of a different player) So we're now over-scrutinizing that player and being hyper-critical. After a while we might come on here and tell everyone that they are shit. Yes, slightly irrational, but I know I'm not alone.

I suspect that the people at the other end of the scale are doing the opposite. So Patto will do something shit, but their attitude is not fuck off Patto you dick, but that's unlucky Patto, never mind and so this does not register as a black mark, everything is fine, it's forgotten about within seconds, he's not being scrutinised and therefore he's not subject to the totting up that somebody like me will be doing. My point being basically, because these people are far more tolerant of mistakes, they just forget about them and are not registering them in their head, so as far as they are concerned they didn't happen and then don't understand the criticism on here.

Do you think that's possible ? If not why do you think you think you in a small minority that think his kicking is fine ? Or is everyone who is saying that is isn't clueless ?

I think the opposite of this is true in the main. Fans expect their keepers to be perfect and weaknesses are exaggerated as if all of their peers don’t have the same weaknesses.

I do, I was just trying to understand how he is not seeing what me and apparently most other people are seeing. I wondered if it was a pre-conceived opinion of the player which was causing some sort of block. I must admit I judge players differently depending on how much I've liked their previous work. I only rate about half a dozen of our players, the rest I think are shit, good honest triers, but shit. I probably expect too much of them, but there are people that think they are all great.

The one thing I’ve learnt (if anything) from posting for 20+ years on here is that an uncanny number of posters on here either never go to games it know fuck all about the game. I’ve always struggled to understand how this fantastic board attracts such a weird cohort of our support.
Here’s another one.

I think his shot stopping is very good.

But his body shape doesn't give me confidence of him being a true athlete and he looks like he will struggle with his weight later in his career.

His kicking is questionable and he's never been that good at corners.

In the championship I think he is definitely OK. No real problem at all. Decent.

But if a Premier league club fancied him for their development system I'd rather he topped up our coffers than selling others in the team.

He’s one of us so very difficult to criticise him but, I don’t think he’s premier league quality unfortunately.

Still love him though 😎

Edit- we’ve been blessed with some great keepers over the years so it could be due to that.
