Jack Clarke

Ipswich’s transfer strategy seems to be throw as many attacking players together and see if it sticks.
sign a load of high performing championship players with a load of potential/sell on value doesn’t seem like throwing sticks to me. Not all come off for sure. We’d have been hammered in this league without many additions

Leif Davis is the star of that team. Everything is built around him being the creative spark. They even drop to a back 3 to let him roam without tracking back. Clarkes main strength is one vs one vs a full back. Best in this league at beating a full back and dare I say it hed better than most Prem wingers at it (his stats in Champ destroy the likes of Eze and Olise when they were down here).
We trialled him as a 9 or 10 on odd occasion and he was awful. Everytime I've watched Ipswich he's so narrow to try and get out of the way of Davis and his dribbling is wasted when it is in a congested middle.

probably McKennas first error as their manager not sure why he bought clarke if he wasn’t going to play him in the same way that made clarke stand out for us…..tried to change his position and way of playing

Mag I presume?

To be fair other than a poor GK we’re fairly tight at the back. Not having a fit second choice striker has killed us in recent weeks, Leicester, Villa, Man united at home I’d back us to have picked up a couple of wins if he didn’t have a league two striker coming off the bench. Muric is a poor keeper. But who else can you attract as a newly promoted club who’s expected to struggle?
You have just looked calamitous at the back and a goal waiting to happen everytime ive watched you mate, i get what you are saying about attracting players but it just looks to me that you put all your eggs into the attacking basket, a brave approach.

Aye its mental to sign a lad who was very effective playing a certain way then not giving him the chance to play that way or in that position. We got a good fee and it allowed Mundle and Tommy Watson opportunities they wouldn't have had if Clarke was still here.

Your keeper & 2 center halfs are no where near good enough for the premier league. The left back can't defend, most of your problems are self inflicted

Think he is PL quality, but is being used really badly by Ipswich. It's like they didn't watch him at all while he was here.
1000% this, Clarke would be thriving if we were in the Premier league because our system was set up for him

When people say he should have waited for the right club - nobody else came in for him. He had even less interest than he did the previous summer where Burnley and Brentford made bids for him that weren't a million miles off what we ended up selling him for. He had nothing left to prove in the Championship, if he'd stayed another year he'd have arguably attracted even less interest as he'd be a year older. It was now or never for him.

No ill wishes from me.

Blows my mind that people have deemed him not good enough for the PL after being thrown into a side nailed on to go down and completely change his game and what he’s good at. You could see a mile off going to a team like Ipswich was bad for his career and plenty called it.

Yep. Plenty. The thing is there’s just as many people getting hard at the fact they he’ll be earning more money now. He could have still made a very comfortable living though, being idolised at a club where he’d have been starting every week and in a league he’d have continued to tear up.

An awful move and I hope our younger academy lads are taking notice.

The flip side of that though is you also want people to move on and do well otherwise people will doubt the merits of joining Sunderland in the Championship.

But but but but he’s earning decent money and that’s all that matters

He moved too early. If he’d have stayed and helped Sunderland get promoted he’d have been awarded with a new contract and likely had been a starter every week in his preferred position. Even if we did stink the league out.
