Support our City Centre - Sunderland

I'm not from Sunderland, but there's a lad at work (in Newcastle) who is. He was proper doing the place down in front of loads of people from outside the region. I had to step in and tell him to wind his neck in. Not even sure he even believed what he was saying, he's one of these who says what he thinks you want to hear, so he might have just been jumping on the snidey Magpie "Sunderland's a shthole" bandwagon.

Sad to see. Trouble is, Newcastle is an outlier in that the people are generally arrogant in a region that is very down to earth and humble. Means that Newcastle are better placed to write the narrative. Certainly doesn't help when downtrodden sycophants from Sunderland believe in it too though.

Don't believe the hype.
It’s worse when people from Sunderland join in running the place down
“I know the town centres terrible” Then come up with some stupid baseless comparison and more often than not they haven’t been to Sunderland for years

Aye. And the base it being terrible on Debenhams & Marksies closing down. Ignoring the fact that one went bust altogether and the other closed hundreds of stores nationwide.
"There's no shops"

Aye, cos you all stopped shopping in them you gonks.

Good on ya.

Newcastle is expensive and overrated apparently though I NEVER go there socially.

I like to support our city.
I go to both to be fair, living between the two places. Went into a bar in Newcastle last Saturday night after getting back from Millwall. Apart from the Quayside it is overrated though and I enjoy a day out in Sunderland more. Should be busy tonight especially with the Christmas parties and whatnot.
