Support our City Centre - Sunderland

You still get it with people from Sunderland. Two women at the gym up silky the other night who were clearly from Sunderland but putting on that stupid faux- middle class nasal accent , one of them was telling the other one that when her son visits for the weekend from Altrincham he just simply refuses to go out in Sunderland so they always go through Jesmond. "I don't blame you" scoffs the other one .

But that's what the council and entrepreneurs of the city are up against
You here that all the time
I’m mean Sunderland
It’s been going on for years though

I find that. Usually, places like North Shields or Blyth (obv not always and a lot of bigots ln Newcastle mind). The bigger the shithole the more they seem to despise Sunderland. The only part they know is Pennywell from about thirty years back. The elderly lady from Belfast (when asked where I was from) who hadnt been as it was too dangerous, this from her geordie son in law, I realised what Sunderland is up against.
Actually spot on this. Take note @1more

Said it before, not one place in Sunderland is as bad as Byker or Benwell. Not even close

More fool them, wasting the time going through there (driving a nightmare and I couldnt think of anything worse than getting the metro to jesmond).

I just couldn't be arsed when we have everything here.

Sad.

I think getting the new housing into the city centre will be a big boost to the night time culture.

I was involved in the Newcastle regeneration years ago and that was a key driver.

Hopefully the houses in Sheppfolds and south of the river start to go up soon to support the Stables and the other regen that is taking place.

I'm not from Sunderland, but there's a lad at work (in Newcastle) who is. He was proper doing the place down in front of loads of people from outside the region. I had to step in and tell him to wind his neck in. Not even sure he even believed what he was saying, he's one of these who says what he thinks you want to hear, so he might have just been jumping on the snidey Magpie "Sunderland's a shthole" bandwagon.

Sad to see. Trouble is, Newcastle is an outlier in that the people are generally arrogant in a region that is very down to earth and humble. Means that Newcastle are better placed to write the narrative. Certainly doesn't help when downtrodden sycophants from Sunderland believe in it too though.

Don't believe the hype.

Happy days ahead for our thriving city centre.
